Okay so this is a ford forum, but what the heck hey?...
Long story short, a mate had a accident about 2 or 3 years ago in his '02 350Z, and cracked the sealer on his passenger light (it wasn't replaced)... and it leaked water so we pulled the light apart to polish the plastics, and the black stuff (see the picture) was bubbling up so I assume it was paint of some type, its glossy black, but chrome on the under side?... First things first, how can I remove the black paint type stuff, at the moment I sprayed it matte black which it does actually look decent but you can see where its flaking up... 2nd thing is, this chrome stuff is like a paint... does anyone know if you can buy it of it we gotta take it in to be sprayed because after I un-masked the the rest of the cover it start pulling the chrome off (I assume its weather damaged from leaking water..)  Oh yes, lol it is a twin turbo 350 hence the front mount... yes it goes hard! |

No idea what sort of material it is but you can buy chrome paint from Bunnings, paint stores, AutoOne would stock it too probably.

Allright, cheers for that might pop down bunnings and see... just not too keen on sanding it or using any sort of paint stripper on it incase it damages the plastic..

I wouldn't bother, any "chrome" paint you buy won't have the highly reflective finish you are looking for, it'll just come out as more of a matt finish like a dirty unpolished old school metal chrome bumper. What is on the plastic is a kind of electroplating type thing like is done with metal only on plastic which is why it's flaking off. Sorry, but I can't help you with getting it re-chromed but if it was me I'd be firstly asking a chroming (electroplating) specialist; maybe they'd know if it can be done and who could re plate it for you.
