My favourite girl passed away suddenly yesterday.
What started out as dog-sitting for a friend ended up lasting 12 years and she became one of the best friends a bloke could ask for. At times it felt like she was my only friend....she was my rock during my relationship breakdown a few years back. Car rides and the beach were her two favourite things in the world and they often went hand in hand. She is now at the beach forever, may she rest in peace. Goodbye Buffy...my best friend

Sad to hear, 12 years is a good run for a large dog, we lost our 13 year old German Sheppard Christmas eve, so i know how you feel.

Corka dog, you've got some lovely photos to remember her by. Knowing how it feels to lose an animal, especially mans best friend, I can say only one thing; You'll always keep her in your heart

Great dog.
Great that you were able to spend so much time together. My cat wasn't good a few months ago and I feared the worst...but it goes to show how attached we become to our animals to the point where they're part of the family, and not just a pet/lower order of life.

i feel the pain mate, lost my dog to a snakebite on a cool night bit over a year ago, the panic of rushing her to the vet, followed by the pain of the loss...life kind of sucks sometimes hey.
my cat has been bad lately too uranium...thankfully she's coming good now, don't know how i'd come losing both my best mates |

Thanks for the kind words people. When my previous dog died I didn't think I could love another one as much but this girl proved me wrong. I never intended to get another one then, like I said, it started out as dog-sitting but when the original owner returned from 3 months away, she could see how much we loved her and decided the dog would have a happier life if she stayed with me. 12 years is a great run, I don't know how old she was exactly but she was fully grown when I got her so at least 2 more years on top of that. She started going grey and getting cloudy eyes about 5 years back and I thought she was going to decline healthwise from then on but she just levelled out and was happy and active, even yesterday lunchtime had a healthy appetite. We think it may have been a heart attack because she was running around just an hour before I discovered her.
Thanks again for the condolences and I'm grateful I did get to spend so long with such a nice natured creature.

Oh so sad! I'm so sorry for your loss. Such a beautiful dog and what great photos of her with your pride and joys!
It can be a strange world, we can have a closer 'relationship' with our pets than most people. They know when you are down, the know when you are sick, and then they share your joy. I guess that is why they are 'man's best friend'. Sounds like you have plenty of great memories with her. The hurt will ease with time, and those great times you spent with her will stay with you forever

Lost Porky last year,only 9...His hips went and could hardly walk...
Had to bump him off at the vets... Took about two seconds,OD on the green knock out stuff,aneefashists juice...  vik... They are a member of the family...!!! RIP...

Sorry to hear mate remember her, get yourself another as well there is no love like a dogs love. It may never replace the one you loss, but it will give you many more years of enjoyment.

Sorry to hear it mate.
My previous dog Jess lasted 15yrs, in the end I had to put her down because she was having fits and was unable to walk anymore due to a suspected brain tumour. I dont think a person could ask for a better friend. They keep you sane!

You have my deepest condolences. As a previous dog breeder & shower, I know how this can take a toll on you. We have lost many friends over the years, champions, rescues, & all time favorites. But the biggest loss was last year when the "old man" (the title passed down to the oldest living male dog in the household), my Keeshond "Ceasar" finally decided to move on. Its the ony time I have seem my dad cry, when we carried him into the vets. Not bad 16/112 yr old. I guss it was more emotional knowing that he was the last of the Keeshonds, we owned after we stopped breeding them.
The only good thing is, that I will never have to worry about him again. Every winter for about 5 years, I always got worried he wouldnt make it to spring. Even before he passed, I always said that I would not get another dog for quite some time. & it had to be another Keeshond or a Huskie. And I'm sticking to it, after my girlfriends PITA dog passes on. & Hes only 2. However, waiting may not be a good way to heal, getting another puppy of the same breed, will make you realise that love isnt just for one dog.....

Losing a dog is always very hard and my sympathy goes out to you, i lost my first dog around 2002, i had her from Age 3-14, untill late last year i didn't feel ready for a new dog, my parents had other dogs that i loved but they wern't mine.
Finally got my Male German Shepherd last year and havn't stopped smiling since, but 7 years is a long time to wait with no best friend at your side. Can definitly understand the "only friend" comment. |

My deepest condolences to you. The first time i experienced real heartache was when my childhood pet passed away, I think I was about 10 or 11. Have always had dogs ever since, for the amount of joy and unconditional love they give you there is always going to be a trade off of total grief when anything happens to them.
