Not 100% correct. Well not in NSW.

There is the facility for a narrative to be assigned to a number plate on the system. When the plate is run, any intel that belongs to the car is brought up.
Example.
Friend's daughter bought a second hand car. Unbeknown to her it was pre-owned by a convicted drug dealer. Every time her plate was run, on come the lights, questions asked and a few times the car was searched.
On one of these occasions I was with her. I had a scanner with me and heard the plate being run and the details of where the car had been used.

She contacted the RTA / Police, but was unable to "clean" the mess up, she traded the car in and lost money on it to be rid of the hassle.

Change the rego when you get it.

That way any records associated with the car will be assigned to the old plate.

Simple

oops. I didnt mention that, she changed the plates.
I spoke to her today and she mentioned it was soemthing like 14 times in 2 1/2 years they searched her car. She said the day they did three times in one day was too much.

Mentioned it to an ex cop he said it is difficult, but not impossible to clear the intel. He di leave about five years ago, maybe easier now????

I am sure there are some members here who have the exact (cough) knowledge, and maybe able to add some info.

If you look at the screen (in sa anyway) that the cop gets, the pull up the car info, which shows the driver. Its along the drivers name that any markers come up, eg, its says SPD if you have been caught at 45kph above the speed limit in the last 2 years, or DUI etc.

Id buy it, change plates, and presto, no problems.
and if you do get pulled over once, its no prob if your not doing anything illegal haha.
