Default Groom crashes Lamborghini on way to wedding

lucky wedding day off to an ordinary start

The man was reportedly driving with his best man along McIver St in Middelton Grange, west of Sydney, on his way to the 3pm (AEDT) wedding ceremony when he crashed the luxury sports car.

The groom told police the car skidded on the bumpy road in the wet weather before leaving the bitumen and crashing through a wire fence shortly after 2.30pm.

No one was injured in the accident.

The Lamborghini Gallardo, estimated to be worth $500,000, suffered only minor damage in the accident, according to police.

But a representative for the company that hired out the luxury car, David Wilkin, said the damage was worse than expected when he arrived at the scene and the car was "almost a write off".

"My heart sank when I saw it, it's one of my favourites," Mr Wilkin told Nine News.

The driver, who was reportedly running late for his wedding, told the hire company where the car could be found before leaving it on the side of the road and running on foot to his church.

"He said I have to leave your car now to go to the church," said Mr Wilkin. "[He said] it is waiting for you."

The groom made it to the church on time for the ceremony, Nine News reports.

Police do not believe speed was a factor in the crash but are continuing to investigate the accident.

Strange how on Fith Gear they drove one on an ice track and could not get it to lose traction and spin no matter how hard they tried.

The guy must have rocks in his head, you hire a car like a Lamborghini to get to your own wedding, I'd have thought he'd have used it to get away

Yeah, the car just skidded........Had nothing to do with the driver, it was the car.... LMAO!
Nothing funnier than the part where he just leaves the car and foots it to the wedding.

I would have thought 15k was letting him of lightly, there would be more then 15k damage there.

I wonder if he told his bride before or after getting hitched? At 15k, she would be ****ed! Not a great way to start a marriage!

If $15,000 is all he has to fork out then he should thank his lucky stars imo.

Why haven’t the cops charged this clown with leaving the scene of an accident? I couldn’t give a rat’s **** where he was going. Doing a runner from an accident is a serious offence, well, it used to be.

I wouldn’t feel too sorry for him. They still have enough cash for a honeymoon in Paris.

I wouldn't call what he did a "runner". It'd be different if he tried to escape the scene without being caught, but it seems he did the right thing by calling the car company and letting them know what had happened and where the car could be found. I see no problem with what he did after the accident, I would've done the same thing in his shoes.

But in saying that it's still early days and he could very well be charged.

I have a feeling the plan was to crash it so they could get their wedding day on tv, not joking here folks. Ch 9 Had the bridal couple discussing the crash on TV at the ceremony, then showed them at the reception and at their hotel!

We’ll have to agree to disagree on that. Also, in my opinion, doing the right thing by the owner would be hanging around until someone from the hire company turned up.

It's a shame people have this type of attitude and it's exactly what is wrong with Australia these days.

The easy going larikin died off many years ago and has been replaced with a bunch of sour bastards..

Im with Full Noise on this.

If your driving like enough of a meathead what else would have happened? A vehicle like a Gallardo doesn't just spin off the road through a fence by mistake.

Wedding day or not, leaving the scene of an accident is an offence and we all held to account no matter the circumstances, why should this dude get away with it?

No mate, I’m just a plain bastard.

But, yeah, I’m really ashamed of my attitude, you know, the old one that says that you are responsible for your actions, that also includes complying with the law even if I don’t necessarily agree with it.

As for your larrikin comment, that’s “dinky di” Aussie slang you’re using there. I wonder if the "bloke" driving the Lambo knows what Aussie slang is? I’m just so happy that they could all have a great big laugh about it like it’s some big funny joke. (insert sarcasm here).

He probably should of stayed at the scene. But at least he didn't run away saying "wasn't me"
The company who owed the car knew about it. Would it of made any difference if this guy stayed.

Is that a joke? The crash happened in West Hoxton. I’m surprised that it was still there when the towies turned up.

You only need to provide your details, he didn't hit anyone, so who would he give his details too, the fence?

Insurance company should be the only ones who needed to be notified.

As if the cops would bother charging him, geez some people are dumb for suggesting it.
