Default Telstra contract

Hey guys, I've got a $49 cap bundle which I took out nearly 2 years ago now, so I'm coming out of contract in a few months time, one of my workmates is on the new $49 cap and for the same price he gets 1GB of data, whereas I get 200mb, is it possible to update to the new plan without extending my contract?

I'm looking at getting another phone outright and going pre-paid still with Telstra when my contract is over, so I don't want to re-contract for another 24 months.

No you can't change. You can add 1GB for $10/mth though if it helps?

Hmm, thanks much.

I'd prefer to stay with Telstra as they're the only ones who cover my area decently and the only place where you can go into to try a phone before you buy.

I'll probably go with their text + data prepaid plan, $50 for unlimited text and 3GB data, win. Or their Cap Encore, $50 for $1000 credit and 2GB data, but I don't really use my phone for calls much.

Can't you just go pre-paid on the phone you have once its out of contract until you get the new phone?

Ive done it. Back in the days before the new round of Freedom connect plans, I was half way through my 2 years when they upped the ante for my spend level. I rang them up and got my benefit level matched to the latest.

Now I'm on the the BYO, $59, $800 calls/MMS, free texts, 2Gb data deal and should they make that more beneficial throughout the plans life I'll be ringing them again.

Get on them, it worked for me.

Buying a new phone outright will give you some good levaredge come `sign up` time, Dont get sucked in with `sweet deals` etc, make them play the game ( my dislike for telco`s is documented somewhere on this site but anyhoos, ) If you want to keep your existing No , just make sure your acc is up to date before you change stuff, they don`t like this game much

If you are going prepaid, or anything else different ... contact Telstra before your current contract expires and tell them you're not renewing. If you don't, your current contract will renew automatically.

You will find it in the nearly unreadable fine print on the back of your current contract.
