Default Changing Leads

Just got some Top Gun ignition leads for my AU 6. But how do you get to the coil pack to change them?

jack the car up and bend ur arm in some funky way to undo the old ones and put on the new 1s..

my mate reccomends doing them 1 at a time.. and i agree coz i did mine my self(he works for toyota @ redcliffe and does a few fords when the ford dealership at brendale is overbooked(they send them up)

thats also how mr Ford does it.. as his sisters bf worked at a ford dealer as mechanic and thats how they do it.. its stupid but its how it is..
have fun

I managed to replace mine from the top with the aid of a torch. I've got small hands though.

mattbl & rob_liss_lms10 have the right way to do it for the backyard mechanic. It is a pain though - allow about 1.5 hrs. The V8 takes about 2.5 hours!

its easier if you get someone to feed the leads thru one by one.

2 people working on it makes it easier.
easier if you are anorexic as well.
Still a PITA job to do.

definitely do one at a time .. or there could be tears ... and a very bad idle

It takes me 1/2 an hour to change my leads. You need a torch though to spot the numbers on the coil pack which corresponds with lead.Remove air filter.Make sure car is cold.Use your arm and slide it between air box and intake manifold.Once you slide your arm towards the coil pack remove them one by one and you should be fine.

One at a time is a pain in the butt

1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6
Front of Car - Engine - Rear of Car
1 - 2 - 3
6 - 5 - 4

That should make sense.

Also if the originals are OEM ones, there will probably be a massive cable around the coil pack which you need to cut off.

Dan..

As everyone has stated PITA Job, and Axeman82 just stated, If still Original, there will be a veyr thick Cable Tie under the coil pack, up and over the leads to ensure they dont move/come off. I had mine up on ramps and did them from underneath, (easiest way) 1 at a time. Then at the end shoved my hand down from the top to just ensure they were all on nice and tight. Was going to put another Cable tie over them but it got put in the Too Hard Basket.
Its pretty easy to do when you have the numbers as stated above but they are staggered.

i.e. Looking from Top With Left Being The Front Of The Car
(From Memory)
- - 1 - 2 - 3
6 - 5 - 4

But may be the other way i.e.

1 - 2 - 3
- - 6 - 5 - 4

You will know when you see it.

Have fun.
