Holden would not confirm Mr Marinos Panayiotou’s German assignment, but his profile on business networking website LinkedIn shows he has been based at Opel since November 2010.
Whether or not it was deliberate move, Mr Panayiotou’s appointment has placed Holden in an ideal position to ensure General Motors’ new global sedan meets the needs of Australian buyers.

His CV does have a logo of performance development.

And then this.

“We have no plans for a V8 for the European market, but there could be a discussion with North America to get one for Australia. It’d have to be organised through America, where they would offer us a V8 engine on an appropriate platform and it would then go on sale there as well.
“I understand it [a V8 engine] is very important for the Australian market.”
He’s not wrong, with the 6.0-litre V8 engine in the current Holden Commodore line-up even today accounting for about three out of every 10 sales.

I just hope Ford are listening.

The 370KW is Speculation and I would say unlikely, but not nearly as ridiculous as fitting a 6L V8 to the transverse engine Opel Insignia.

Basically, either way you look at it, the next Opel Insignia looks to be an enlarged Chev Malibu/Buick Regal.
More like the longer wheelbase versions of Epsilon II like Impala but with Malibu's medium sized boot.

So I'm prediction an Insignia on the longer wheelbase with commodore rear leg room and overall length.

Only fractionally narrower than Zeta Commodore, the car will see real lift in fuel economy for base models,
a fuel efficient diesel and a turbo I-4 being enough for most people. Maybe AWd TTV6 for HSV.

This. The 2.8-litre turbocharged V6 in the current Opel/Holden Insignia VXR produces 239kW and 435Nm. While it's AWD, it's a Haldex system that predominantly drives the front wheels and only engages the rears when there is front wheel slip. There's a limit to how much power a FWD or Haldex AWD can put to the ground. The effort and cost required to develop and fit a V8 into the next Insignia/Malibu platform doesn't make sense - Wheels should know this.

Maybe that's what he means about the platform.

what complete and utter drivel, as if they will re-engineer insignia to take v8 either transversely or longitudinally. The numbers don't add up.

As mentioned in the article it is something that the US will need to supply the platform for (i.e. chevy ss).

The lion's not lame. It represents historic competition, rivalry and dare I say a homegrown alternative for Ford. I'd sooner see that than the almost entire public commuting in RAV4's, Kia's and Hiluxes. Now times will change indefinitely with an ill-informed and government with distaste for local industry. As for bowties on Commodores... stupid, they look as good as a shaker on a Hyundai.

Jay Leno built a cracking Toronado - all 1200hp of it, although he did change it to rear wheel drive, suppose he had to with that much power.
