Yeah absolutely but it was months of beaurocratic crap rather than weeks.
Now I just need to wire in the brake controller and check if I need one of those voltage-suppressing patch leads for LED lights.

Some do seem to go for crazy prices.

Am I the only one that's slightly horrified at what's going on? Or is it just that people don't know?

NSW's write-off laws mean that there are no repairable writeoffs anymore, they are ALL statutory writeoffs. Cars with "malicious damage" or hail damage are being declared statutory writeoffs, unable to ever be repaired and re-registered. Insurance companies writing off cars has a direct influence to everyone's premiums every year, they're going up due to the amount of write-offs.

Not only that but insurance companies own wrecking yards! These insurance companies have a vested interest in making sure your car is written off so that they can scrap the car for its parts, either using them in their own repairs of other cars or re-selling them to you at inflated prices via the wrecking yard. AND THEN they're double-dipping by increasing premiums due to the high turnovers of written-off cars! They WANT your car to be written off. Does that concern noone else?

The Suncorp Group spends about $450 million each year on spare parts for insurance businesses such as AAMI, GIO, Apia , Shannons, Just Car Insurance and Suncorp.

It moved to cut its spare parts costs by linking with US component specialist LKQ Corporation to start ACM Parts, a joint venture that now owns salvage business Frank's Auto Parts with sites in Smithfield and Queanbeyan.

Formed in August 2013, ACM Parts is a joint venture between Suncorp Group and LKQ Corporation, a North American based global leader in the provision of high-quality recycled, aftermarket and reconditioned automotive parts.

ACM Parts will establish a new quality standard for alternative parts use in Australia by selling cost effective, high-quality OE recycled and independently certified aftermarket parts to both the motor repair industry as well as directly to consumers.
Insurers are charging you a fortune to insure your cars each year then wanting to write them off so that they can salvage the car for its parts... contributing to increases in premiums. They have a direct interest in making your car a stat write-off. How is that even legal?

Dont forget when they write your old car off...that policy is over.
Pay again on a new more expensive car = higher premium...worse if its YOUR fault.
This can happen the DAY after you just paid the current policy...

Most people dont/cant fix their own cars and just want insurance to deal with it and no headaches.

Insurance fraud or scamming pushes prices up as well.

They had to do something to combat the "cut and shut" and car theft trade but I think NSW and other states have gone too far stat write off for everything.

Yeah I think so too. It sounds like the biggest government-backed scam I've ever heard of to rob the general public.

If you could ever get to the bottom of it you would probably find that pressure has been put on Governments by car manufacturers to get all damaged cars of the road.It isn't in car makers interests to have any damaged car repaired.A few bottles of wine in a high ranking public servants Xmas box works wonders getting new legislation passed
