Default 06 LS LX Recirculate Air problem

Is it normal for this to lose its 'memory' when ign is switched off?
The ac will remain on when the car is restarted but the recir air always switches itself off!

Mine does that too. I'm assuming that it is normal operation.

Rceirc is designed to open up again every time you start the car. It's to stop the car being left permanantly on recirc, which is both bad for the A/C system and bad for your health.

Leaving it on recirc permanently, especially on long trips decreases the amount of fresh air inside the cabin, thus increasing the amount of Carbon Dioxide as you breathe the air. The more Carbon Dioxide in the cabin, the more you risk falling asleep. On highway trips it's recommended to leave the air on open at all times. In the city, to avoid fumes from traffic, whack it on recirc but be mindful that even for a relatviely short trip this can slowly reduce O2 levels and increase CO2.

This is why it's designed to default to "open" mode every time you start.

in winter you might as well switch the AC off too.. i haven't met anyone who gets in their car in the cool of the morning and thinks "wow, it's warm in here!"

AC+heat is good for demisting windows.

Is also good to recirc once its starting to defrost, to zap all the moisture out of the air in the cabin, so it starts demisting the other windows

AC comes on automatically when air is directed to the windshield and the fan is on

You're right - thanks for that.

That's put an end to the "Hey, I don't remember turning on the aircond" remarks from me.

Air con is a de-humidifier, it pulls moisture out of the air. Another reason why it's not as "stuffy" and why air-con dries out your skin in office buildings for example.
