this thread is great... i didnt even know there was another option out there

iv sent B.P.T a email just asking the difference between the AU and BA levers they advertise... and i have a BA console but a AU gearbox so im not sure what the differences are... im pretty sure the BA console is higher which makes it look like its a shorter shifter...

billet shifters have a different part number between AU and BA (both 5 speeds) so im not sure if they are the same gearbox or not...? the position of the shifter at the moment hits the dash with the standard gear know on...

Cheers Cam

Im glad to have started a helpful thread!

Didnt the BA Mk1s have T5s, with the Mk2s getting the 6 speed manual?

I've only been in one manual BA (XLS ute) it was a 5 speed with AU gearknob.

The console is slightly higher, most probably a BA T5 lever would be shorter than an AU one.

I didn't think it was a T5 the BA's had?

I just got a T3 shifter, Part No. TAU3 7C305 A.

Unfortunately i not 100% happy with it, as i've also got a AWC Shorter Shifter Shaft which i kinda prefer, as its lower, i'd like to bend my AWC one across to match the T3 one then i think it'd be right, for me anyway.

Also the 'chrome' dress ring is still available Part No. TAU2 7E097 A

Thanks for the part number NC1183!

Any comparo pics between the AWC and T3 levers?

Unfortunate that you're not 100% happy, is the T3 lever much shorter than the standard lever? Sounds like the AWC one is fairly short? What interests me is the way the T3 one is bent closer towards the driver.

Also what is the chrome dress ring?

Hey, the dress ring goes between the gear-boot and the gear-knob.

T3 on the left, AWC on the right in both pics.
Both mounting holes at roughly the same level. You can see how much shorter the AWC one is which is why I'm not 100% happy with the T3 one as I'm so used to the hieght.

Ordered my TE50 shift lever last week, got it today. $135.95 trade price. Combined it with a Mal Wood T56 shift mechanism (modified for the T5), works very well. When I ordered my shift lever from Ford, the bloke in spare parts said according to his computer there were only 14 left so if you want one, you better get in quick..... By the way, the 5 speed gearbox in the Au3 T3/Pursuit 250 & 5sp Ba xr6/xr8/GT is a Tremec TR-3650, not a T5.

Sorry dreadly. Wasn't replying to you directly just adding comments to the thread in general. Someone said in a previous post that the BA had the T5.

Both NA and turbo xr6's got the T5z (only with different ratios in the turbo) until they started using the T56. The NA box got the same ratios as the au t5.

I simply took mine out, cut about 3 inchs out and then re welded it back together, make sure if you do that you are a half decent welder and run a full bead around it, would not be fun snapping it

They are rubbish, spend a little more and get a better quality shifter, they arent much more expensive.

I bought this one from Mal Wood. From memory it cost around $80 all up to have it posted to me in Sydney. It's fitted to a short shifter which gives very precise changes.

This is what it looks like fully fitted. I love it, as I can just rest the forearm on the centre console and change gears.

I did all via email with Mal Wood, and it was posted the next working day. As you can see the it sticks out of the gearboot a little otherwise it will pull too tight on it. All I did was paint it black with a pressure pack to blend it in.

I recently swapped over from a standard stick to a T3 stick. Felt good without the console in, little bit odd now with it back in. Guess I’m just use to the normal stick.
My pick would be a T3 stick on a rip shift. Reckon that'd be a sweet combination.

Comparison shots though. Normal Vs T3
