Torrenting is definitely the way to go. I haven't watched TV for years, mine sits in the corner gathering dust. I get to watch the shows I enjoy whenever I want. Free to air and Pay TV are both chocka block full of mindless crap, stupid commercials and political agendas. No thanks.

but i mostly only watch abc and sbs. i get 16 stations of satalite free to air digital (vast network) and there is often still nothing to interesting on.

See, get rid of crap like that, which no one wants to watch anyway.

Replace with good TV shows. Even if they're re-runs, just for the love of god something people WANT to watch and ENJOY watching!

Free to Air is ok depending what sort of shows you watch.
For me Revenge/Greys is all I watch on free to air these days and sometimes the news or to have a laugh at ACA
Foxtel and internet is where I watch all my other shows/movies

Its folly to assume that commercial free to air TV is there for the viewers. It's not. It's there to sell shampoo and gambling. If viewers don't watch, then the advertisers don't sell shampoo & sportsbet don't get customers, then the show is canned. They now have that many ads per ad break that it's impossible to watch a show too.

A way around that problem is to have these garbage karaoke shows - X Factor, Idol etc, all of which are rigged to get the teeny boppers in each week, and which make squillions from all the brain dead cretins who text in to vote. It costs nothing to make, and they make incredible amounts of money from the texts. Same with Big Brother.

I want to thank the commercial TV networks. I am reading more books now than at any other time in my life, and saving power in the process. While they are continually dumbing down the population to dribbling moron level, I know my kids will have an easier time competing for a job when they are old enough, because they will know how to read and how not to dribble on their slippers.

Foxtel is the way to go. I record everything I want to watch, then watch it in my spare time fast forwarding all the ads.
I love it. There is always something interesting to record. I record more stuff then I have time to watch, so the memory is slowly getting filled up.

500GB a month limit on downloads, I watch what I want when I want, channel BT is the best tv, and with streaming and the set up I run I can watch any show on my PC, TV, iPad, Phone, or any other TV in the house all without commercials and I can pause rewind FF or watch again or later when ever I want not when the "Networks" dictate, more importantely if a show I like is rated badly in Australia I can still watch the season in order without waiting 4-XX weeks for a local station to get it working in order.

While I was channel surfing last night I switched over to a TV show on one channel and found it was in the middle of a commercial break. The show didn't come back on until about 10 minutes later, and this was in the middle of the show, not in between shows.

Meanwhile channels 7, 9, and 10 are opening up more and more auxiliary channels which either play the exact same shows as the main channel, or are just 24/7 advertorials.

I also like to watch the Formula 1, but all we get on free-to-air is a pathetic highlights reel instead of a race broadcast.

I have the satellite based VAST system.

I get the channels from all over Australia.
if i miss something it's on 30 minutes later in SA, 3 hours later in WA and in summer an hour later in Qld.

Plenty of variety especially the NT channels.

All broadcast TV is rubbish. I keep my (legitimately purchased) collection of TV series, Movies, documentaries, etc on my home server which has 40TB of storage in RAID 0. I can stream whatever I want seamlessly to as many devices over my home network as I want.

I watched free to air TV at my brother's house recently and I couldn't get over how many advertisements were played. It felt like half our viewing time was spent watching commercials. I don't get a heap of time to sit on my bum and waste time so I like to get maximum amount of entertainment out of the time available. Watching advertising is dreadful.

By the way, Netflix for the win if you legally want to watch stuff, whenever you want. Bugger recording it, just watch it.

Had Foxtel from the get-go. There were hardly any adverts back then, it seamed they were getting enough $$ from the customers opting for 'pay-TV'. When they were advertising, it was either for a new channel coming out, or other T.V shows across all channels. These days, wow!!! You may as well call it 'pay for adverts'. I know more about Funeral Insurance than the entire Tobin Brothers Family Tree combined!!!

I just stick with netflix. $10 a month and its unlimited uninterupted streaming in HD with no ads at all. If it wasnt for my xbox and netflix my tv would get sold. Free to air is just a load of ****. Nothing worth watching on it. And foxtel/austar is so full of ads now its just as bad as free to air.
