funny the incident above only happens when i,m in my 4wd. i,d say people dont like to get stuck behind 4wds because most 4wds used to be fairly slow i suppose.

but i do wonder when there little 4cyl pulls away up a hill wtf,the ranger seems so grunty everywhere else. but like any diesel i suppose once you lose your moment its all over.

sorry for the novel
A 3.2 Ranger shouldn't have any trouble with a 4cyl econobox, especially uphill.. Hired an NA XR6 over christmas, I reckon the Ranger would be about as quick from 100-140.

That said, would kill for a Raptor at US prices.

yeah tell me about it.should have no probs. but your on the brakes at the bottom of the hill waiting for the shitboxes to pull in the left lane . so its really from about 70km then tromp it after your been on the brakes,so your revs are down. try to go past and they speed up and its a race to the single lane. anyway looks like it may be a problem of the past in about 5 weeks after waiting for conversion.

its really a diesel momentum thing( not a ranger thing) . its the only place i really fault the ranger. got plenty everywhere round town .

Only negative about the Raptor is the price here for one, we get shafted big time with importers/conversion costs. Such a badass truck with the grunt to back it up.

Theres a Supercharged version as well isn't there? I remember seeing one on US Top Gear ages back.

Maybe someone could make a photoshop one if it is not to hard, to see what it would look like.
You can buy Raptor grilles for the Ranger and sticker packs I have been told, but it's not the same.
The engine and suspension are probably my favorite things about the Raptor.

Im a little disappointed that the Ranger only comes with the 5 cylinder as the best engine. It's a great engine, but I am a V8 fan.

Petrol or Diesel, if the Ranger had a V8 I'd get that one.
Honestly if any ute came with a V8 in Australia I'd get it. As long as it's a decent ute and the price is right. Those LandCruiser TDV8 utes are too basic and over priced.

But overall my main wish is that the Raptor was reasonably priced here. It's a great package for $45,000USD

Have you considered dropping back a little so you can get a run on them before the overtaking lane? It's not that hard. I only have the 2.2 and I have never had any trouble overtaking.

Raptor:

Length 5896 (mm)
Width 2192 (mm)
Height 1991 (mm)

Ranger:

Length 5351 (mm)
Width 1850 (mm)
Height 1848 (mm)

Yeah they are quite a bit bigger. Ranger is bad enough in shopping centre cars parks, I'd probably avoid them as much as possible in a Raptor

yep,lol its a mountain range full of tourists. we are talking pretty long steep hills. look normally its not as bad as me raving on about it. but i need more grunt. frankly the ranger does,nt have it. i ring its neck basicly it has no more to give. prob worth saying again, this is the only fault i find. don,t want anyone thinking i,m bagging the rangers. everywhere else i find it awesome. steep terrain not so much. on paper its got the torque ect

i even have to admit i prob have one of qld steepest driveways. but feel my hilux got up it a lot better. its prod not the engine maybe the gearing. its a manual just incase people want to know.

pretty much what it comes down too.

My ranger accelerates uphill in top gear better than my xr8 did. In saying that though the things I would do for a raptor.

The one I photographed above was right hand drive, no idea what company converted it though

I find the Ranger to be great down low. I raced a V6 Camry (or Aurion or whatever they are called) up a hill, pretty sure he floored it from the start and I was keeping up with the V6 petrol until my revs got over 3000 and he slowly started to pull away. I feel like I would be able to out accelerate most of the boring 4 cylinder cars. The bigger engined 4 cylinder ones would be a bit more of a challenge.

The Rangers 10kmh-60 or 70kmh acceleration is pretty impressive though.

Put it into 5th rather than 3rd the other day against a hilux and still beat him to the merge, the low down torque really comes in handy sometimes

I think we are getting screwed over big time.

They tell us that they make the Ranger in Thailand because it is cheaper.
If that is the case, then why at the very least can't we have a Ranger / Everest with a V8 made to a similar spec, and sold here for 50-60k
Something does not add up.

If Ford Australia wants to step up there is a big opportunity here. The tough image these cars create filters down through the whole Brand. To me that is a good thing for Brand name building and improving sales.
If people are spending 150k to bring these here and convert them, there is a market for them. What have you got to lose? Fifth position on the Car Sales Ladder....

Aurion is a faster car than a Ranger. Much faster - so he did not floor it :-). My daily drive is a Navara 550 and have access to Aurion.
Boring 4 cyl cars ? Ranger is only a 5 cylinder anyway - stuck in between 4 and 6 :-)
On a serious note you cant measure fun in a car based on number of cylinders.
Thats old school approach when more cylinders equaled more fun . Technology changed that.

i,ve been having trouble explaining the hill thing with the ranger. well here it is

your stuck at the bottom of a hill behind cars. your in 4th you want to pass (double lanes just about to start)80km but dropping back to 3rd is just is out cause its reving near red line and going nowhere. so your stuck in 4th really with low revs trying to build them up to start more power coming on. the hill is getting steeper now so it struggles but still 3rd won,t do you any good cause your ringing its neck going no where. getting half way up the long incline powers building foot through the floor ,

like someone mentioned earlier could prob hang back get a bit of a run up.thats about it really.

hope that makes sense. anyway its not really about the ranger this thread. its about wanting more grunt and anyone with good first hand info on the raptor.

peace.

Must be a mighty steep hill never had that. I can keep mine in 6th doing 80 and accelerate up hills without a problem. Either that or you got a dud.

starting to think its a dud. others aren't having the prob. even if i need to tow a car up my driveway ,my hilux was even better for that.

in saying that the ranger gets up the drive in 2nd and the hilux 1st. ( not towing off course ) might be more the gearing i find different.

and yes its a steep hill and long. trucks generally get to around 20-30km going up. (dual wheels)

I don't even know why they bothered with the Ranger spending all that coin on it, they could have spent that coin on the F150, made it RHD and chuck the 3.2L I5 in it and built it in Thailand for our local area.

Ranger is 90% of the size of the F150 isn't it?

Ah, make your mind up. Camry sure, you're alleged race is plausible. Aurion, you would have gotten smoked.

A corolla or focus is 90% of the size of a Falcon or Commodore. One size doesn't fit all. I would however love an F150 or even an F250 if they were factory the and realistically priced.

My honest review decent on road for a truck, pull hard, **** at real offroading but at medium pace desert style stuff they are great for a factory truck but not quite the prerunner alot of people think they are.

The only reason one size doesn't fit all in those dual cab 4x4 pieces of poo is that they haven't driven an F series or the GM and Dodge variants before, once you have one of those you don't go back, after having a GMC Sierra C3500 i'm never going to consider having anything smaller again when the time comes to have another big ute.

When it comes to dual cab utes bigger is definitely better, especially when it has mental suspension and an agro V8.

I haven't seen one in the flesh here, but when I was in New Caledonia earlier in the year they were everywhere along with Dodge Rams and previous model F trucks. One of the first things I pointed out to my wife was that an island like New Caledonia in effectively the middle of nowhere can get them but we can't - seems silly to me.

Having said that if they were made available here for a realistic price I would not hesitate to update my Ranger to one.
