There are a few things I love about brisbane...

- The terrible, terrible XXXX gold that I will probably drink again within the next 3 months, with small protest. "Got anything besides XXXX mate?" "Nah" "But its free right? "Yep" "I'll have two"

- The fact I saw a Holden Statesmen speed up and change lanes in the middle of an intersection today, to turn left in front of a Bus. I laughed.

- The fact that I can walk to and from the shops in summer without shoes on and scold my feet, but for some strange reason I'll do it again and again.

- I live 40mins north of the city. My boss lives 40mins south of the city. Driving to his place takes an hour.

I was from Townsville originally but grew up in Brisbane. It used to be a big country town, but its closer to being more like Melbourne but without the crazy weather pattern. The prices of land are equal and dearer than Melbourne (nothing comes close to Syndey), and the degree of multicultural demographics is becoming larger.

But it will always be unique because of its all on its own in the North, its flanked by the worlds best beaches and has some of the worlds tallest residential buildings. The weather in Brisbane is the same as in Cairnes, and Townsville and 3/4 of the Queensland coast line but we don't have to deal with Cyclones.

It doesn't take more than 1hr to drive 60km across the city form Northern most suburb to southern most suburb. But its big enough to warrant a second gateway brindge also being one of the biggest and longest of its kind, and to have 8 lane highways linking the Gold Coast to the CBD.

We don't have to worry about fixed speed cameras, and our mobile ones are all set to +11kmh over the limit which means if you get cought speeding you really were speeding, and speeding properly! We also get most of the revenue raised from speeding fines and redlight camera fines spent on the block spot sections of road to improve them.

See how good we Queenslanders are !!!! We can do an 80 minute trip in an hour ! Uncle Joe gave us all the ability to stop time for short periods !

Yeah at 2 AM maybe...

Adelaide is full of serial killers, Sydney is full of rude, egotistical people who think the sun shines out of their collective ******** and Melbourne is full of elitist bastards who hate Sydney almost as much as Brisbane does. Hobart is both boring and wierd. And Perth... does anyone really care?

They've been open till then for ages, thing is, once lock-in starts at 3 AM you can't leave until 5 AM. But 2 hours, big deal, besides which, most people are ready to go home by 3 AM anyway.

And the city doesn't get "dead" after 1 am... its still pretty busy but the valley is only getting started at 1 am!

I'd bag Brisvegas, but someone will bring hook turns into the debate.

Brisvegas???

Hmm, yeah I suppose it can work.
I've always just called it Brisbane or Brisy, or Briso.

Having been born there it is my home town, but it's not really a town any more, is it?

My earliest memory of Brisbane, is the 1974 floods, when we were all piled in the back of my Uncles' Holden F series ute, and all I could see were a few houses sticking up out of the dirty great brown flood.............

As for XXXX, yeah, it has turned to crap, but there was always Brisbane Bitter, affectionately known as Brisbane River....
Either way, they never made me as sick as drinking 'Vomit Bombs' (VB)!!!!

I go back to visit some relo's each year & the joint just gets busier & busier.

More and more immigrants, etc have changed the face of Brisbane and I suppose it will change heaps more yet.

Lived in Brizvegas for 6 years its not a bad city, but after living on the Sunshine Coast for 5 years, i cant really see the point in living in Brisbane unless you work there (or study). The Gold and Sunshine Coast are nicer places in my humble opinion.

And yes XXXX is better than VB, but really its like comparing a VC to a VH commodore, their both bad.

I don't mind it here, but it's nothing to get excited about. As Andrew McGahan said in Praise - Brisbane is just a place where people are because they're not somewhere else yet...

Hey Nick, I used to work at a bottle shop and we sold cartons until 12am....you need to do more shopping around

But overall I see nothing wrong with Brisbane having a nickname or a few to be exact. Nothing wrong with Brisvegas.
