Even if the servo guy let you park there for a couple of days , i would rate the risk akin to leaving your car in a railway car park, 50/50 chance of failure or success, me personally. i`d use public transport or fork out for a taxi rather than leave my pride and joy out .

If you park in the wrong place someone will likely notify the staff and it will be removed at your expense. Most sites have parking limit signs now and they are issuing fines and towing cars.

You must know there is a large car park, that's half full at the busiest of times. nowhere near filling spots so why would anybody in a truck bay?

PS there are no signs about parking & staff don't look out to the carpark.

So how do you know its privately owned? it looks very much BP owned to me

I know the owner of that site.

In the past I have called up a site and told them that the car wouldn't start and I'd pick it up the next day. they were fine with it. Naturally, you are parking it at your own risk. So not their problem if it gets damaged or stolen.

Never said anything about money. IMO you mustn't value your car too much if you want to leave it there to save some time. Anyway for whatever the reason your thinking of doing this i dont think its a good one, there is no way id leave my car anywhere like that or a back street somewhere, but thats just me.

anyway Lots of People, have no choice but to park their cars in the street. many a lot more valuable than the 5 grand mines probably worth.
you are correct that I don't value my car as much as you probably do yours
but that doesn't make me abnormal

I did however consider the BP because I felt it would be safer than a 'back street' certainly safer that parking in and Industrial area
I would have selected a spot out of the way, but not isolated its all floodlit
So probably safer than parking on the street outside my own home.

Left mine at a shell for 2 nights near the city a few months back after the distributor died on me in peak hour.
Let the guys inside know id be back in 2 days(pay day) to get it towed, no dramas.

I wouldn't leave any of my cars at a servo overnight. And I don't leave them at the airport either, even though it'd be easier considering i do Adelaide to Perth each week. You're basically putting out there to most car thieves that the car is not likely to be used anytime soon.

That's your call, you should take a look at how many Melbourne commuters leave their cars at the airport. they must all be tightasses too?

PS I don't think a car thief really cares whether a car is going to be used anytime soon.

Parking your car at a servo, shopping centre, places of employment & streets has all the same risks, can't see why every one is making a big fuss over nothing.

At least with a servo you are guaranteed to have security cameras which may be a benefit.

Funny, but this is the reason I considered the BP as its more secure. there is no parking building to consider.

For those that know this area is screaming for a large parking Building, with the addition of Public transport.
Its quite a central point, where commuters could leave their cars and catch an express bus to the city.
at the moment there are no Public busses travelling along the motorways.
this area has no train access either

I forgot all about this thread. Yes I am familiar with all the BP's in Metro melb. I know which ones are owned by the company (BP themselves) and which ones are private companies or simply owner operators. If you look above the counter at the BP Eastlinks there is an "AA Easlink" sign. AA is the company that owns them and a bunch others accross Melbourne and Geelong.

Certainly is not hard to walk up to the counter and ask for the manager. He is there everyday.

And yes there is a large carpark for paying customers of the servo and the food retail businesses that pay rent to be there. And then there would be your car taking up a space for someone who may actually be stopping in there to buy something and usually the carpark what its for. Not to buypass paying an actual carpark for storage of your car for a couple of days.

I assume you mean the manager on Duty, being a 7 day 24 hour operation, they would of course need to rotate staff.
Certainly different from contacting the owner whom I believe is the Andrianopoulos family

Over trying to get you to see the light on what is / isnt appropriate actions to take on someone elses property. Just remember servo's are not public land or property so if you come back one day and your car is gone dont blame them.

Calm down, I really think you've missed the whole point, If I had have parked there it would have displaced nobody. because its hardly used.
It would not have been anywhere near any trucks as per your initial post, and it would be highly unlikely that anybody working at BP or McDonalds for that matter would have given a stuff.

When we travel with our van we occassionally sleep behind larger 24 hour servos in various locations out of Melb where the trucks park, one morning after parking in a quiet area with not a lot of others around woke up with 6 other vans doing the same thing! No hassles from anyone. This allows us to get across Melb, as we live an hour from it, late at night with no traffic and a good start away the next day.
