About the 2nd DIN space, do most audio places stock the VDO pocket thing?

Thanks Mick!
NP Al, I just did one of these today infact..
You can get yourself a Ford pocket from Aerpro that Autobarn/Supercheap and most car audio places will sell for around the $15 mark? it is just a empty pocket that fills the hole that you can stick your cd case in i guess

the VDO pocket that holds CD's can be sourced from any VDO reseller like Autobarn or Repco since they are the only major stores that carry it

Well..Im a bit biased I guess...but I think the cappa lightens it up alot...And you dont see too many of them.

I am happy though.

Karl if you want the Double DIN I think it can be arranged.

Also guys...what cheapo/easy mods can I do?

The only one I can think of is EL GT snorkel...Or is it the XR one?

Im going to Ford tomorrow, so while I am there I want to pick a few things up:

1. Snorkel - can someone confirm which one fits? GT or XR
2. A pretty BA badge..ill get pics later

There must be something else... :

nice pickup Polyal the Ghias are an awesome bit of kit. A 5 speed is only a simple conversion away too. Good luck with the new beast, and I agree with sundeep EL Ghia is the best E-Series except GT's and Sprint and preferably with the 5.0. :

Polyal, either a XR or a GT one will fit. But the AU III XR8 (220kw) snorkel is even bigger and will fit with only a small trim. Fitting time is around 5mins. They cost around $25-35 from your local ford.

Nice pickup mate, bar the EL GT these are the best E-series you can get.

And what's wrong with the steering wheel? Leather is good.

How about a classy chrome tip? I can't tell from the night pic if it has one or not (doesn't look like it). Cheap, quick fit, and it's not like you're losing $$$ when/if you replace the exhaust system.

Switchable shift kit? Wire it into the power/econ button so you don't need to put any holes in the dash, or tack a switch to the steering column or whatever.

Just a bit on the steering wheels so you know....

John's Steering wheel is an AUII MOMO option that was possible to be ordered on Fairmonts, Ghias and Fairlanes. Its not the standard Fairlane wheel, nor is it the EL GT wheel- looks the same but the leather is different.

You can fit any steering wheel from EF - AU onto it no worries, just retain your original airbag and cruise buttons.

Might save you some trouble finding a wheel you want .

wow thanks for the respnoses guys!..Ill get some day time pics today, but she wont be clean as I dont have time.

Stevo - the AU2 snorkel, am I going to notice any difference? I did the XH snorkel thing to my EA and other than looks, I dont think it did much..lol Still worth it though. Or would it just be easier going the EL GT/XR route..

Do you have any pics of the trimming that needed to be done?

Jason - I am buying some mcguires Leather foam stff today, hopefully that cleans it up a bit

Dave - Exhaust tip IS happening..I am think twin dump, but might just wait untill I get a full exhuast qoute

b2bf - so all wheels from EF onwards will fit, the frame and outer I guess you could say, I just keep the middle bit and switches?

I know the feeling. $7000 for an EAII! It wouldn't be worth half of that now.

Nice EL. It looks really tidy. Good buy mate.

Don't I know it :

And Dezza, don't feel too bad about paying $7k for an EA, an old friend of mine from high school paid that for his back in 2001. Was a damn nice car at the time too, but he went all "country" and realised that RMW stickers and bullbars don't mix with an EA Ghia. So he spent $20k on a Cruiser instead. There's no moral to this story, just that depreciation sucks. And "country" sucks lol out:

great pick up Al.
Iron out the issues if any & it should serve to be a very reliable car for quite some time. All the luxury ghia stuff & a hint of tickford.
Heritage green is a pretty under rated colour. Not sure how the paint is mixed but there must be some black/green going on.
Will look awesome when all cleaned but be prepared to spend many hours on the leather for a worthwhile result.

Thanks again for the comments guys..much appreciated. I skipped some uni classes today because I am excited..lol

So a bit of an update and some pics. Still haven't cleaned it yet though.

Today I brought the AU2 Xr8 snorkel, and another small item, see if you can tell what it is (its kinda obvious but yeah....). Ill do the snorkel on the weekend when I clean it up.

Also got a qoute form some super lows to be installed by TTF - $380..does that sound fair?

Also got qouted on a set of BA Xr8 copies, and lowering - $2000. I am still very undecied on the rims...there are alot of them out there..they look good but still...

I thought I should play it smart and book it in for a service to, the owner said he did it himself, I have no doubts he didn't, but better to be on the safe side.

And tint is booked for next tuesday - got darkest legal for $250.

Also, lastly, I got some slimlines but on and changed the rego. But the rear looks weird (the chrome surround where the normal size on goes), I might have to get a standard size for the back.

Heh yeah I remember putting on a slim line on the back of my first EL, I got a new set of plates a week later cos that slim line looked crap on the number plate position on the bootlid.

I like the Ghia badge... I might think about doing that myself, heh!

Looks fairly tidy from all aspects given the price etc. Good pick up.

hate to boast but i picked up my el ghia 121000ks $7300
in far nth qld where prices are a world away from the big smoke in melbourne this is a silly silly price.
some grandpa advertised it for six moths and when i insulted him with a low price he agreed my jaw had gravel rash on it for a week it hit the ground so hard
he origanally wanted $13990.
which was $2000 under a car yard price for the exact same car.
cars are sooooo expensive up here, car sales are about $4 -5 k under what our prices are.
back on topic
its good to see im not the only one bombing the snot out of grandpas old car
