Yup. But mainly AUs, as far as taxis are concerned they were the best falcon ever made. SOHC = no major damage in the rare event of a backfire, introduction of the egas system, still the old live axles, steel head gaskets, very hard wearing interiors, especially AUII+. About the only thing you can say against the AU's was some ingress/egress difficulties due to the not square roofline.

To put their money where their mouth is, the taxi mob i used to work for recently bought a brand spanking new BFIIIIII egas wagon to cab it up.

Wikipedia English - The Free Encyclopedia
The Ford Mondeo is a large family car sold by the Ford Motor Company in various markets throughout the world. The name "Mondeo" is derived from the Latin for world, mundus. Although classed as a Large Family Car in Europe (Mid-Size), it is classed as Compact in the American market.

Mondeo is FORD's World car, thus the name..MONDEO

The Mazda 6, Honda Euro and Camry will still outsell it in the class it competes in.

You could say that for the 2, 3, and 6.

Mondeo is definitely becoming a wall flower, it's way down the buyers preferred list of mid sized cars..

Because its such a better looking car... inside and out.

The Mondeo styling hurts its sales.

Im not sure what you mean by that but yes.. Mazda has adopted a more prestigious image over recent years due to build quality, model mix and luxury refinement levels..

How was the aircon?

I've heard from a lady at work whose husband has one as a company car that the aircon is quite average.

On the other discussion topics, Ford has been trying to kill off the wagon for years. They thought they'd done it with the AU, but it lived on in the BA and BF.

I see the Mondeo as their way of softening us up for the Taurus. I mean lets be honest here, the majority of cars sold here are fwd. The average car owner doesn't car too much as they buy a Camry. The majority of large car buyers opt for a Holden Commodore. We all know the value of the wagon, I personally love them, and it's easy to see why the Sportswagon is selling so well.

Shame, but just the way it's going. Sadly, I suspect the Mondeo wagon will not simply sell the numbers they expect it to. Ford seem to have a habit of misreading the Aussie market.

At least Holden take risks and capture the imagination of the bulk of the loyal Aussie car buyers. Inferior products I believe, but they have the heart of most aussies.

Maybe I'll take the diesel Mondeo wagon for a drive when it arrives, but my preference (when I upgrade the AU wagon) would be a Territory on gas, or a BFII wagon (with XR front) on gas.

After having owned 3 Falcon wagons, we moved on to the Territory, which has been an excellent vehicle for us. I reckon Ford were right in betting that families would move to the SUV concept, whilst the tools of the trade would stay with the wagon.

A few mates still have Falcon wagons and they are devastated that the end is coming. A Mondeo will never be able to do the work they use their Falcon wagons for. Loaded to the hilt, tradie roof racks, and towing a massive tandem trailer full of gear or the old 18 foot caravan down the coast.

The old Falcon wagon was all about value for money, you go a bloody lot of car for the price and one that was happy tooling about the suburbs, crossing the country or towing just about anything up to 2,300kgs.

I really wonder how the Mondeo will do with the roles the Falcon did, the mind boggles at the thought of one in Telstra white with a massive roof rack full of ladders and stuff. I reckon the image of a smart European family car will soon be erased when these start turning up.

Vale a good friend and wonderful work horse, you will be sadly missed!

The Mondeo to me just feels like a Euro Camry.

I'm at a loss to why people are saying Ford could cheaply revamp the Falcon Wagon and keep it on sale. There are so many factors that lead to its death, and cost no doubt killed it.

- New safety regulations. As fleets call for cars with side airbags, DSC and a strong body structure. Our company will not purchace a car without DSC or at least four airbags. Imagine the cost to get it up to scratch?
- Production complexity. As Ford Australia continues to sell higher end models with good GP the wagon whose sales were mainly to fleets was making the factory complicated. We have two new engines coming, so imagine the complexity with the wagon. By killing it we can make more G6E models etc.
- Sales. Falcon wagon averaged like 300 a month last year, NOT 500.
- Looks. It's a fact of life, looks sell. The wagon looked horrid, a simple facelift including revamping the interior, the front and tail would have blown out.
- Engines. You'd have to redo all the engines and re test them to fit new regulations. Go figure.

Ford gave up on the wagon well before BA, it was in essence replaced by the Territory and that was the plan all along. Strong fleet sales kept it going, but the complexity of the assembly lines meant it was starting to cost money.

As for the Mondeo, I think it's wonderful. A diesel wagon is what we needed from the start. Safety, features, looks, comfort and fuel economy. Market it and it'll work. Mondeo started at 300 sales a month, it's around 450-500 now so if Forf continue to push it it'll grow. They need to show the fleets, market it right and push it. Sure it won't lug a load like the Falcon wagon, but it's a better car and will help Fords image. The Falcon wagon was old hat, having it sit in the dealership would be embaressing.

Good riddance to the Falcon wagon. It had its place, about 20 years ago.
The Territory & Mondeo are much better vehicles.
It's time Ford moved into a different direction and let go of the past. May be some here should too, embrace a new line up of vehicles at Ford, from small cars to large sedans.
Now all that Ford need to do is share the attention to all its range, it isn't a Falcon company anymore, it is Ford.

All the cars in the Mondeos class are like the Camry.

Mondeo - Euro Camry
Epica - Korean junk Camry
Honda Accord - Classy upmarket Camry
Mazda 6 - Trendy flavour of the month Camry
Camry - Camry

The mondeo is a great car. What a lot of people don;t realise is there is also more room in a Mondeo sedan than a Falcon. When the rear seat folds down, it becomes a wagon, with it folding flush with the floor.

I agree 103%.
In fact the Mondeo reminds me of Susan Boyle. She exceeded expectations with her magnificent voice, but, still, you don't see many men lining up to propose, do you.

I can't help but remember the unloved Avalon's frazzled look every time I see this Ford.
/there's no way Keelan will convince me otherwise.

And the Mazda 6? Pure pure class. It's one of the best new looks out there.

Ford are just establishing the Mondeo name. Most people don't remember their last attempt to launch the car, so this is a fresh start. The problem is Ford is the 'Falcon Company' and because the Mondeo is so similar to the Falcon size wise people get confused. When first launched the Mondeo sold about 300 units a month, it's now at just over 500 a month. The medium market is not huge, and has seen no major growth, so changing the name and having to redo all their advertising would be stupid. The Mondeo is here to stay, like it or not, Ford won't give up on it. Those 500 sales a month are better in Fords pocket than Toyota....

Would be interesting to see the Territory figures to compare with these. A lot shorter I would imagine.

One thing that steers me away from the '6 is the 10000km service intervals and the prices they charge for doing it. Besides there's no dealer handy nearby.
