Its the she'll be right attitude that has resulted in me doing a T5 conversion on my wagon. Honestly, there are plenty of experts out there that only get there information from heresay. What you're doing is great and as Sundeep has already said, its not like its an EL GT.
You'll find that it will save heaps of time if you use a alignment tool as its better than an aligning it by eye while you're all scrunched up with a bent neck whilst under the car. Try using a brass garden hose nozzle or even a plastic one to align your clutch. As far as the whole conversion goes, just save all your frustration until its time to swap over pedal boxes. Its the hardest of all. Saying that, its the best cheap mod that you can do that changes the way the car goes. Best money I ever spent on a car.

spigot bearing ? Whats that..
lol. ;) Ofcourse I did. The bolt isn't heavier, i don't think, its just longer. That's how it was in Jacks car. :| If it's not alligned properly, I think i will shoot myself. I understand the theory of the clutch tool, but it's just a retarded plastic thing that doesn't even seem to fit. Well the one i bought is. If i get a vibration i'll live with it, this car is falling to pieces anyway. I'm saving for an EB-ED manual on gas. There's one on fordmods, but i just don't have the money. "Place the clutch disc in front of the clutch, lift onto flywheel, aligning the clutch with the mounting pegs and the clutch disc with the center of the crank using the alignment tool. When the fitting is complete torque the clutch to flywheel bolts up to but NOT more than 22 ft/lbs" Taken from an american site. What does that equate to in Nm. |

I might have another look at aligning the clutch with this stupid tool I have. Before i start bolting up the bellhousing, as it would be a nightmare if the box didn't wanna go in, i'd have to unbolt it all again. I suppose i could just do a few bolts for the bellhousing then see if it's alligned... hmm. I'll work it out. need to get up early tommorow and just do it! Thanks for the help everyone, I know it will be worth it in the end. My first car was an EA S MPI 5 speed, that car hauled ***, wasn't as strong as a redgum post though. :eclipsee_ |

As people have said, the clutch aligning tool does wonders, saves you a possible countless hours of aligning it by eye.
Would of been a good idea to use a 6 bolt pressure plate as I have heard that three bolters tend to give up easy under the pressure of a line lockie or thrashing. Make sure the bolts you have used are high tensile, the last thing you want is to snap a pressure plate bolt. Looks like you are nearly there.

does anyone know how tight I need to torque up the presure plate ? Someone with a ford manual.. ;) :P Please.
Is $76 for a 1/2 " drive kingcrome torque wrench a good price. It looked huge, like nearly 50 cms long. Should I get a smaller one ? Do i even need a torque wrench, or should I just do the bolts up 'tight'. I'm hoping to get the gearbox in tommorrow with the help of Kenaz. lol, I hope. Gotta fix his brake lights too. |

nah the box is still on the garage floor. :P
I tightened the flywheel bolts up to FT. ;) Going to get a torque wrench tommorrow for the presure plate bolts, and i've been advised that 80 nm should do the job. |

At work the flywheel just cops whatever the rattle gun can give ;) 80nm is a fair bit of torque, close to FT.

Hey!!
Quick question before you put the manual box in as I am going to be doing the same soon. I've got a second hand T5 manual which I got for pretty cheap, but I noticed that the input shaft(the bit where the clutch goes onto) can move around quite a bit on mine. Would you be able to check with yours and see if the input shaft moves around?? Is this normal or what? Thanx |

Yep the one you circled is the one. On mine I can move it side to side and up and down. : So that isn't normal then?? Maybe if i take the bolts that are around it I can slide the cover off and replace the bearing in there. Anyone know if thats possible? |

Nah it shouldn't move up and down side to side, as that is the input shaft. Something must be broken inside. Pulling it apart might be worth a shot. I really dunno. I guess it was cheap for a reason.
Try posting a thread in the driveline section, there are some very knoledgeable folks on here, and plenty who have played with the t5's. |
