The idea of showing the handle is not to inform theives how to break into these cars, but to inform owners of a security flaw.

You know what I am glad the pictures have been posted, if that is the design of that pathetic piece of equipment that is the last line of defense then people need to know about it. Having owned 3 AU's this is the first time I have seen it, and for gods sake its not a "how to". Geesh! anyone can order that part of ebay, dealer, scrap yard. Each car I have owned has also had an alarm, with a paging system, I look forward to the day. I laughed at Wasa several years back when he removed the door handle on his AU1 with the key locking mechanism and replaced it with a rear handle, now I know why.

it is because the plastic tha the bolt that holds the barrel in is useless and would snap with a screwdriver driven threw it if i am looking at it correctly??

I just sold a kit with 2 pre-cut keys, the ignition barrel (which is all metal) and the door barrel, and the plastic part did concern me.

Never good to hear about stuff like this and I hve to admit it looks like a dodgy setup. Ive always been curious about putting a rear handle into the drivers door on the ute, admittedly it was more for looks though as I never use my key to open the door anyway. I do wonder how you would get into the car if the remote failed though.
Nonetheless my ute has a quiktrak alarm system which is always on, plus a few other things I have added (which for obvious reason I wont go into here), so for now I'm reasonably happy with how secure it is.

Im gettin a rear handle on monday afer this, but its been said before if they wanna grab something, theyre just gunna smash and grab. Yes a lockless handle is somewhat a deterant, but thats not gunna stop em i think most of us here know there are other ways to geting into the cars.
Professional theives have already done theyre homework, so we can try and try but if they want it they usually get it. Frank

It was more annoying to buy another door handle and respray it. The fitting of the rear door handle never crossed my mind a great idea. I think they only fixed this problem with the BA. But if a thief wants it bad enough they will smash a window. |

i think you guys are over reacting abit... It wasnt the car that was stolen it was his gear inside it... Security is nothing more than a deterent.. Fitting a new door handle, metal plate etc still wouldn't slow me up any.. I have had over 30 AU's and although I am an 'old hand' at getting into them it isn't rocket science..
True story.. a mate went to the park to have a kick of the footy and lost his keys somewhere on the oval.. Lucky he had a spare, problem being they were inside the car.. I turned up and using nothing more than a branch i ripped from a nearby tree I was in the car in 15 seconds... And I didn't break a thing before you ask :P

Davo a bit harsh there don't you think?
It doesnt matter what car it is, someone has obviously worked for what they own inside the car not to mention the car itself. It's completely wrong for some slack *** moron, who can't be stuffed getting off his ***, getting a job, and buying what he desires. What happend to Australianism? And comments like that Davo, i find, un-Australian. Regards
