The BA XR6 Turbo & XR8 were developed by Tickford, the development hacks were even badged as such. I think part of the rebranding was to provide more seperation between the XRs & FPVs as people didn't understand the difference between XRs & T-series as well as promoting the Ford name more.

FPV still build the XR8 engines. The XR6/6T/F6 engines aren't built by FPV (anymore, initial F6's were tweaked by FPV, now Ford build them all to F6 standards).
But Ford wanted the XR range - as it's now more a high volume product than previously - I don't think FPV could cope with the production levels required.

Just my 2 c's worth. I never liked the idea of ford calling their cars Tickford, or FPV/FPR when the names were first made public. I think they should have kept with the SVO name because it sounds tougher than the both of them. However they kinda make for uniqueness now and therefore may make them more of collectables in the future.
