Got to remember what happens in a video game isnt how it plays out in real life.
He had got one of the hostages to record a message saying he had 4 bombs in various locations, so I think the police initially were wary of that. The fact they didn't have a bigger safety cordon later means to me that at some point they realised he had no bombs, but then thought they'd wait him out.

Agree. It's all about the cash and finding loop holes in the system for solicitors.

What a crap result, 2 hostages dead. They should have taken him out with a sniper bullet when they had the chance (and they had plenty of chances), only in Australia!!

USA, Canada, Switzerland, China etc would have done this and all the hostages would have been safe.

Sorry mate, but the young lady who was killed had 3 kids, the youngest being 3. One media outlet claims she jumped in front of her pregnant friend because this grub levelled his gun at her.

So close to Xmas there is going to be a family sitting down on Christmas day, 3 little boys without their Mum. Heartbreaking, absolutely heartbreaking.

So the dirt bag that caused the siege and subsequent murder of innocent civilians was released on bail for 40 sexual assault charges and being an accessory to murder where a woman was stabbed 18 times and set on fire.

Magistrate Daryl Pearce said he granted this individual bail as a "simple matter of fairness".

Mr Conditsis(dirt bags lawyer) said outside court the magistrate "made a courageous decision" granting bail

…….well it appears the decision has really payed off for the Australian public.

Not sure how these people sleep at night, I wonder how they are feeling this morning??

In hindsight yes.But early on we didn't know if he was working alone in there or had a bomb in his back-pack/Vest on a hair trigger. Once people started escaping and he didn't take any aggressive action, I thought there mite be some chance that this egg brain could be talked into letting everyone go, apparently not.

My point being is that you don’t need to have children in the siege to be effected, one of the individuals killed was a prominent barrister with the world at her feet and had 3 young children all under 10, right before xmas, their world has now been turned upside down and I couldn’t imagine what they and the families are going through right now.

Thank you to the NSW Police Tactical Operations Group for executing an op in such difficult circumstances.

No doubt there will be a review later into the Police response to determine if they could have done anything differently, but until then the "shoulda put a cap in him" calls need to stop. We weren't there, we could only see what the media allowed us to see, it appeared to be a rather difficult premises to enter due to the shop layout, single doorway and small windows, and don't forget there were claims of more gunmen and bombs as well - you can tell the coppers took the bomb threat very seriously because they had EOD people there all suited up ready to go.

They did the best they could in a split second and remember this isn't America where we shoot first and ask questions later, we're a peace loving country where we try and resolve things without bloodshed first.

Maybe our approach needs to change? Perhaps. But the time for that discussion is later when the dust has settled. Until then, remember these faces:

Would this Iranian individual be in this country now if we had adopted her policies?
I think not.
You shouldn't bag her out for wanting to keep Australia a peace loving country without the baggage the the middle east brings

She didnt last long for a very good reason. Can you imagine the place if she was running the show..FMD.

Australia was made on immigration..a fact that those touting PH views seem to forget, and infact many following her path have their own mixed gene pool so work that out...

Not that PH should have anything to do with this terrible situation.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Bryant

compared to this home grown nutter yesterdays actions are almost irrelevant.
I feel for the families of all involved, this sort of tragedy is the culmination of many issues, failings and events. baying for blood and the cessation of normal human behaviour and rights wont bring them back, wont stop another event taking innocent lives.
But don't think for a minute this sort of action and the plethora of others we have been outraged by this year are anything but global societies failings when you dig to the real crux of the issues.

Agreed, this is where our courts need to sit up and take notice. He is facing 40 or so charges including accessory for murder, yet someone thought bail was appropriate

You don't need hindsight, YOU NEED FOR-SIGHT!!!!!

When in the history of the world does it ever turn out good with a radicalised hostage taker? If the TV cameras and photographers can get a full clear uninterrupted view of him like we saw then they had every opportunity to take him out without incident.
