considering that, there is prolly no reason we couldn't go all the way to the B pillar with the trailer, would make it somewhat bigger, but would also allow much better storage options.

Good thinking EFF..
If you go to the B pillar you could maybe have a roll out BBQ in the front section (where the back door would normally be) and you've still got heaps of storage in the centre and back section..

I work with trailers.. If you want help with a frame, or ideas on how to keep it legal, safe and tow well, I've got plenty of free steel that's suitable and a MIG, and spray equipment.

You'd need someone who is prepared to put some time into the bodywork

Young Jack Trouty knows where to contact me if you're interested.

I have a question!

The original plans were to run the original EF-EL Watts Link rear suspension, but will that be safe on a single axle trailer, or will it need to be converted to leaf springs?

If the original suspension can be retained, an SLS system would probably work a treat, and could be lowered when not in use :P

it'd need a diff housing to retain the watts link....but shouldnt be a problem IMO...

sls would be cool as,. i can donate shocks, springs, lines... havent got a pump though

what would make the standard suspension unsafe?
if it retained the diff/trailing arms etc?

The 4 link setup in E-Series sedans uses very different length arms, and it causes 'rear-steer' when cornering. Because the upper arms are diffeent length, when the car gets body roll, the side of the diff on the inside of the corner gets pulled forward, while at the same time, the outside gets pushed backwards. This makes the leading edge of the rear wheels face towards the outside of the corner, and makes the rear of the car (or trailer) want to go towards the outside of the corner. The other thing is if the trailer ever started to sway whilst being towed, this rear-steer would make the swaying a lot worse.

I don't know if It makes a difference on a single axle trailer, but it's certainly a fairly big problem XE-EF sedans.

we can make a mock up of a diff housing less the bulg in the guts all we need is a diff for me to follow the input lines off ie the arms

as far as having someone to weld all the legal stuff im a boilermaker welder by trade......

if you want to see some of the stuff i build look at this site

www.watsonfarmmach.com.au

so all legalitys as to strength of the welds and things we have covered

yeah well there are a few things we will have to work around, eg length of trailer front of the axle, but shouldnt be a problem if we use the bpillar. i think i might fix a proper trailer axle and leaf springs as per aarons concerns. will get in contact with those wanting to donate those bodys and ill organise a pickup of them. thanks guys

and what do you guys think of respraying it a totally wild color rather then the e-series color? just need someone that has time and equipment to do it? because i think it might be hard to find a really good rear section of a nice color. would be easier for construction aswell. just an idea

Can I maybe donate a small toolkit (a supercheap jobby) or a first aid kit or somethin? Or even the trailer plug and a wiring loom?

Just an idea.

Why not do away with the upper links and make a brace from the upper trailing arm mounts down to the lower trailing arms. That would elimenate this steering prob and keep the ability to use SLS suspension on it. You'd probably need to make some stronger arms tho.
