done 2 cheap *** power house cars
1. Gemini with injected 308, was quickand legal for a while... got defected for supercharger! 2. Hilman hunter with 265 hemi... wow not legal in any way but fun anyway my suggestion would be the cortina with 4.1 or later turbo injected motor

I am thinking about this also; A TC/TD Cortina, converted to run on a OHC motor- say JMM DEV5, with nitrous would be an absolute ******* weapon!! 10 second quarters would not be out of the question.Rip-shifted T5, maybe 3.9 diff; and you'll see off WRX's, until you encounter a corner- then the defficiencies of the suspension geometry murder it. Still, about 250kW+ through a 1100 kg car, thats a NA six is an awesome car to fly the Ford flag....

What do you people think of converting a Cortina to EF/L Fairmont Ghia spec.
By this I mean installing EVERYTHING mechanical and electrical into a Cortina. I would end up with a 210hp (to start with) Cortina, with smartlock, remote central locking that activates the lights, electric front seats, (the capability of) 4 electric windows, a door ajar system, and full factory diagnostics, that will be correct. thoughts? Ben

I think that's an awesome idea. Lots of work, make no mistake about that, but the reward if you saw it through would be massive.
Old school coolness with moddern brains and braun. A well known and proven combination but when have you ever seen a retro cortina done to such a level? Do it. |

So you want to buy an old small car for the weight advantages then put all the heavy late model stuff into it?

In a word: No
In more words: Yes, old car for style (new cars don't do it for me, sorry guys), small car for weight. BUT I cannot see a modern driveline and luxo stuff weighing in any more than 120-odd kg more than the original stuff. A small price to pay for nearly doubling the horsepower and gaining economy and driveability. It also has far more potential. And its really unique... I have three concerns with the project though... In order to kill all fault codes (which you would want to do, given the time that would be spent), any Fairmont computer has to be hooked up to an ABS system. Would this still function correctly in a different car? Dash: Original with custom guages, or modify dash to suit Fairmont guage cluster? Interior: Four seats or five? Four seats would lead to more comfort, and the opportunity for a rear fridge, rear seats can also be electrically operated, independantly. 5 seats is easier, and you can carry more people... thoughts? Less weight + rear fridge? wtf.
Decide what you want for this car before doing anything.

yeah, the rear fridge was just randomly thrown in there for laughs
but really I have two options for this car, one of them involves performance, and not much else, and the other involves making a car that is unique, nice to drive, and show-able. The latter would also cost a fair amount more too, in both time and money. In short I havent made up my mind, and thats why I am asking you guys what you think. Not to make a car to suit you, but to get ideas going. That said, the Cortina that is out the back is getting sold (it was too rusty anyway), so I can't use it any more, however we recently came across an injected VK calais to strip for parts. I won't be using that car due to its condition, but it did give me some ideas. cya Ben
