did one week at FoMoCo Campbellfield... My dad worked there back then in engineering. Sweet for me, he knew everyone... I went into the design rooms, the clay studios, a full on tour of the head office, paint shop, pilot crib, EVERYWHERE! It rocked... I literally spend 5 hours one day by myself following cars being built from scratch to the drive away product.
Back in the day of $5 a day, they were paying $10, dunno what it would be now! |

Last year I went out for a week to a Hair dressers. Worst week of my life.
I have just finished 3 weeks work experience in a Beauty place ... Massages, facials etc. Although I'm not into that it's compulsry through the school. Next term we get to do 2 weeks, this time I'm going to a Hair Salon [Some how I don't think your son would be interested in that] Though I think my brother did a week or so as a Boilermaker when he was in school.

Is there a difference between a hair dressers and a hair salon?

out of waxing young blokes! These days after Uni and courses. She was a trainee at a solarium for $6 an hour, not work experience, but actually working on the job and being trained by her "Untrained" 17 year old full time staff!! All you mums and dads, please pay attention to where your kids learning or working, they have no idea that they are being ripped off. Last edited by LTD Ute; 03-06-2008 at 06:59 PM. I did mine at a ford dealership and ended up working there for 2 years.
It was a good experience and still comes in handy now when i need the knowledge to fix my own car. The experience with working with cars now go a long way - especially if you want to get into the mining industry where all the money is now.

Did mine at a flying school. Most boring week of my life.
It wasn't because I discovered aircraft/flying was boring, just that there was literally nothing for me to do. I got to head out and see one bloke cutting aircraft panels for about 30 mins on one of the days, but the rest was sitting around reading magazines. On the Thursday they asked me to clean the toilet...I literally got up and left at that point. |

Why do employers love chucking in '' the toilet has to be cleaned ''? Must be the pre-job formality for any new job!

I did my Yr 10 work experience at Street Machine Magazine.
Was a pretty cool experience. Got to see how Australia's highest selling car mag is put together. I got write an article on a very nice HR Holden and did that months Readers Cars as well as compiling all the Fords featured over the past two years previous so that the guys could start putting together the first of their "Street Machine Presents: Australia's Hottest Fords" series of magazine. Got to take home a nice haul of free stuff as well!

We had 2 weeks work experience at 2 different places in yr 10.
First week was at my now current place of employment after I finished yr 12, just doing various things around an office. I went on a helicopter flight as well as played golf with the CEO who was my uncle. Second week was at my local Harvey Norman. That was pretty crap they had my vaccumming floors. I planted sooo many beeper labels that were meant to be destined for dvds. I'd put them upside down on the floor in major walkways and laugh when customers would be called back into the store to check thier handbag etc. Whilst I was there a group of Campbelltown "natives" came into the store and started yelling and stuff. They created a diversion and a girl who looked about 18 started walking for the exit. Under her jacket was stashed about 20 DVDs. When she set off the beeper the whole group ran for the exit. The doors they were trying to get out of opened inward, so in the time trying to open the doors all the sales guys and managers got out of the entrance doors and the brawl was on. After they all ran off we watched the surveillance tapes with the police. The store manager who was about 6'6" and about 130kgs was throwing people into the shopfront which was lined by metal bars. It was a pretty crazy thing to happen on work experience.
