Would you pay 50 k + for a car that doesnt have a real lock? Maybe I will but a padlock for my ford doors? Lock it from the outside.Sure they can get in but next well be leaving the doors open..

Did you guys know that any Ford Falcon key from EB onwards, will LOCK any Ford (Falcn). ie, an EB Tibbe lock key will lock a BF. I have locked a few AUs and BAs in my time (in carparks) - and have only thought once, what if they left the keys in the car - oh well, I was doing them a favour!

As for unlocking - my XR6 drivers door lock was also attacked with a screwdriver - and now some idiot has had a go at the EL too! Dufus! It's worth more to me if they did steal it!

Not me - a very practical solution to the problem of the car not locking! Plus I don't find Mr Bean particularly funny anyway.

the second one is no good, you only have to tap the side of those padlocks to pop them open.

if your battery went flat you could attach some terminals to your battery that exit underneath to allow you to jump it from underneath

if your remote battery dies.. well.. your stuffed..

There is a way guys. Run a cable just like a bonnett cable into the door ,to the lock and in a hidden spot accessible outside but only known to yourselves. You could also probably run alarm sensing to the cable if it interfered with

i know of several cars where they have shaved teh handles etc and run it to the mirror to open the door
and have central locking as their only means of unlocking the car

the DOWNSIDE to the falcons is the fact we dont have a boot lock that is undoable with a key

One could always be installed, I've actually been thinking about this for a while. If you shave the door handles, you could install a key lock into the boot behinhd the number plate incase the battery dies.

I was reffering to a manual key release for the boot lid. Nothing electronic. Relocate the battery to the boot, and also wire a central locking button in there and you hopefully wouldn't have too many drama's.

sounds like a lot of work for a "what if?"

I've had three AU daily drivers since 1998 and have done this to all of them- I have only ever used my remote exclusively and surprisingly changed my first remote battery as a prevantative measure on the T3 a few months back. I've had flat batteries before, but never so flat they would not unlock the doors, just nowhere near enough to crank it.

honestly, I wouldn't bother with the hassle of a secret unlocking device

I didn't come up with these ideas for removing the lock, but removing all handles. Thought about shaving them all when my car goes in to get some body work (still waiting on a few items to be made yet). Think it will be a couple of months before my bonnet and kit are ready yet anyway so plenty of time to decide what and how.

That's an actuator. AU design was also a flimsy piece of crap. The plastic shafts are always breaking.

My drivers side one went on the eve of my sisters wedding, just after i parked the car under the exhibition building for the night/next day to get home. I couldn't figure it out at first and was just lucky all the other doors locked and the drivers could be manually locked.

I can picture that. It is so dead set simple to break into an AU without breaking the lock or leaving any marks. This would thus make a 'lockable boot lock' irrelevant for the purposes for accessing any AU.

I really have to at all the 'design team protection measures' to make your AU more secure, with the exception of jimt3te50's brilliant little piece of engineering innovation.

When I had my car keys stolen at a work site and had a replacement ignition barrell and locks installed, I could see how flimsy the lock design really was. It was far from awe inspiring to say the least.

The lock and key works REGARDLESS of any power to the vehicle or if the remote battery is flat. I had the old lock in my hand and played around with it with the old key OFF the vehicle and it turned the lock. Sweeping statements like "if you have a flat remote battery, or a flat car battery, you're stuffed" are misnomers.

At the end of the day one would really have to question whether leaving such valuable items in your car is ever going to be a wise idea ever.

With all this talk on how to get in, I might just leave a screw driver next to my car.
I'd get more for it from the insurance, that what it's worth. (It's a AU2).
