ran out of time to get one on a car for tomorrow unfortunately
the good news is though that i have trial fitted one and it couldnt fit any better so that is the biggest hurdle just need to organise the latches then i can start getting these done the next focus will be the fairmont bonnet i will be honest and say i am definately considering moulding the full top of the fairmont bonnet so it would look exactly the same as factory - i would however reuse the mould of the inner skin so it would not have any more clearance than the xr style bonnet with bulge (not an issue anyway for most people) |

Sounds good to me mate, i reckon the fairmont bonnet would look alot better than the XR bonnet with the buldge. The extra height would be great, but i spose i cant have everything hey lol
Shame you didnt get one on a car for AFD, was one of the main reasons i was going to go down, i will still go down anyways. Are you going to have your car there at all? BEN

hi guys sorry for the lack of response have been flat out
in answer to your questions - the way i am doing the fairmont bonnet now it will look exactly the same as the fairmont bonnet but with a ba bulge on it, this means you will also be able to fit your existing grille to it as you would to a factory bonnet i hope to have the fairmont bonnet actually available to sell within the next 2 months - longer than i planned but because this is a full fairmont top it will be a much better result in response to the fairmont guys concerned about clearance with me using the inner skin mould from the standard/xr bonnet, even doing it this way i have measured that at the middle point (directly between the two strut points) you still gain an extra 30mm over the standard fairmont bonnet. The added bonus with a full glass bonnet is that if there is a particular spot that you need even more clearance you could cut that small section out (before painting) and smooth it out giving you that bit more room. buying factory bonnets and materials and making moulds is an expensive exercise guys so the more deposits the better! re the sale of the gli/xr boss bonnet, as mentioned before the trial fit went very well and i have the bracket guy on the job of sorting out the latch to do the job - in the meantime i am just cleaning up the mould in preperation to make the production bonnets to get out to those guys who put their deposits in. Will get on to those guys shortly! cheers Adam |

I think there is alot of people who want to see a product before they put money down but i am keen to see how the fairmont one comes up as im looking at water to air intercooling and will neeed some extra room underbonnet.

thats a fair call which i completely understand, bit like me wanting definate orders before i spend thousands (yes thousands) of dollars on materials and labour to make the moulds..... :togo:
the latest update anyway..... Have started making some standard EF bonnets so I have a few there ready to go out. The latch that the engineer made up was very close but needed a few little tweeks so he has that now and will be making the final version for me now. So as soon as I get some latches back I will be able to start sending some out! i have an ef bonnet made and primed at the moment, will be getting that painted and then once the latch arrives i can put it on a car! The other reason I am making some bonnets up is so that I have some there so I can then take the mould back out of production and use the bottom mould to set up the fairmont bonnet to mould. The fairmont bonnet just needs blocking back and wet rubbing then is ready to mould! would like to start moulding the fairmont bonnet before the end of the month, and moulding should only take a week or so.....luckily will use the same latch as the standard ef bonnet so that will already be sorted. |
