They have only been sold in limited numbers due to demand, despite fords efforts to promote them otherwise. Why would a company import more cars that it could move?

Dealer margins are only higher on the falcon when the Aussie dollar is weak. This has not been the case for a long time. This may change now that the Aussie dollar is tanking, but the Aussie dollar had been strong for years, so your point would be more accurate 15 years ago. Not since 2010 at the very least.

To add to this, the wonderful media in this country have always loved to sprout about how no one pays retail for a Falcon, so the concept that a falcon is a juicer proposition to sell over a Mondeo is not correct unless your comparing the Mondeo to limited edition FPV's.

As I said before I'm not saying the Mondeo is a bad bus, it's just not in the same market as a falcon, and given that Aussies have been weened on falcons it always had a fight on its hands to make a name for itself in this country.

As ford has identified, the real competitor for the Mondeo is the Camry. Now if anyone ever sees me in a dealership weighing up the pros and cons of a Camry verses a Mondeo, please put me out of my misery.

Imagine the sales figures in the segment if Camry actually had a wagon...

It'll be interesting to see how the dynamic of the medium-sized-sedan-segment goes when local production of the Camry stops. I wonder where they'll import if from and will they continue selling the Aurion as a separate model?

I doubt it would change a whole lot. People wanting a medium sized wagon are going for medium sized SUVs. Perfect example being the Falcon wagon and the Territory.

Yep.

Mazda 6 has an interesting strategy with its sedan/wagon: they are on different wheelbases I think, sedan set for more comfy ride while wagon is the more sporty 'Euro' handler.

Camry sells on Toyota advertising, perceived quality and reliability..When two cars are similar priced the better equipped will sell..

They do, its called RAV4.

There will be little change to camry volumes once they become fully imported, they will drive the same, feel the same, fleet managers and accountants the country over will rejoice in what a risk free purchase they (continue) to be.

Is the SelectShift auto on the Ecoboost engines a dual clutch or conventional auto?

Does it sell well? I'm not under the impression that it does.

As it's been discussed to death, no one wants manuals*.

*Well there's a few enthusiasts but none of them are buying new large cars. They'll come to accept it, as they did after the initial outrage that there was no manual Territory back in 2004.

I believe Ecoboost has conventional torque converter auto and the diesel has a dual clutch. I'm not sure if that has been confirmed in an official Ford press release yet.

Territory required Ford to spend money to develop it. Manual Mondeo just requires Ford to open the order book... Like I said, make it just to order so if someone wants one they have to wait. I would consider one of these to replace my Falcon, but no manual means it isn’t even on the list.

well it may not have all the you beaut up to the minute trendy stuff, but as rule what it has works and keeps working, and this has for the most part been a toyota strength, no super duper flashy wizz bang gearboxes that can change in a split second and 2 weeks later be in the workshop for 2 weeks, toyota stays with the proven stuff that keeps working.
people may call them white goods , but it beats walking or catching a taxi when the trendys fail..

Megane GT220 is a nice ride BTW. Not as practical as a Mondeo though.

It would also be an issue for Ford to stock spares, although there are plenty of brands who take forever with spare parts sometimes so Im not 100% on the legality of that.

Any word on the ST? There's your manual option.

It's more complicated than that. They'll need to provide spare parts and train their techs how to deal with it. And all for 5 sales per annum? Not worth it.

Don't make too many assumptions. There's no manual AMGs, for example. No doubt there's a possibility, but I wouldn't take it for granted. Back in 2002, I'm sure most FPVs were manual but these days the ratio has reversed.

That looks fantastic. If you stuck a Falcon badge on it, and just told people it was RWD (frankly who notices these days...), the Falcon fan boys on here would be drooling. Alas it's amazing how a small badge on the back of the car and some hidden drivetrain components can somehow completely change the look of a car...

Anything with an ST badge only comes in manual, so lets hope there is a Mondeo ST, would be a good fit into our market when we lose Falcon.

Chuck the 2.3L Ecoboost engine in there, 6sp manual, BOOYAH!
