Hey mcnews.
You've already stated in numerous threads that in track days you drive in auto performance mode. Don't know how to rate your on track feedback other than less than par or worse. TRY manual mode ??? |

Was interesting to find out that the dealer didn't know as much as I did about the car! I told him to check the internet

Use manual mode most of the time but at one track with lots of laps the box by the end of way box was timing the changes better than I, particularly because of the delay between shifter action and box which annoyed crap out of me. By the way I have a crack, quickest at FPV drive day in dry in f6 and quickest in wet FPV drive day in gte, not that any of that makes me special just generally quicker than average FPV driver. Likewise when I talk about speed of response to shifter I am not talking about faffing about on the street, I am talking having proper crack at speed with things happening pretty quickly

From what I've seen I think ZF boxes can upchange in under 1 or 2 hundredths of a second. Below is the Racelogic Performance Box GPS data between 58 and 70 kmh from a 12.509 second (timeslip) 1/4 mile run that my FG XR6T Auto managed in May at WSID. The car is standard and untuned, it was in Drive and it runs out of revs in first gear at around 64 kmh. I think the change might have happened between 63 and 64 kmh. 58-59 kmh................0.04 sec 59-60.......................0.04 60-61.......................0.05 61-62.......................0.04 62-63.......................0.05 63-64.......................0.06 64-65.......................0.05 65-66.......................0.06 66-67.......................0.05 67-68.......................0.05 68-69.......................0.05 69-70.......................0.05 |

If you driven a stage 2 shift kitted or manual valve bodied old school auto box you can see what he's kinda getting at. My old built C10 box in my ESP would almost change gears as soon as you touched the shifter. Its all semantics of course and personal perception, but as it stands, I wouldn't have bought an auto GT if it wasn't for the ZF. A software calibration , throttle blip and paddles on the new XR8 would have made that car something extra special. Big missed opportunity IMHO. |

Hi Guys,
I know there has been talk about this before, but what is the go with the rumour of only 1200 XR8’s being built? Is it only a rumour or some truth to it? Reason I ask is that I called my Ford/ex FPV dealer I have used on the past for info on the new XR8 and a price to place my order. They came back to me and said they only have one car coming and that is it. (Unfortunately the one coming was an auto and the colour can be changed but not transmission and I want a manual). They said there are only 1200 being made and they have been allocated to dealers and that’s it no more. Now to be me this doesn’t sound right but I have heard this 1200 number come up allot in here. I tend to believe some truth in it as they lost a sale from me as they said they couldn’t get me a car as they are getting no more. I know it’s still early days and things are still hazy. Even after calling around to at least 5-6 dealers yesterday some added me to a list and some mentioned there allocation had been sold. I did find one however who has confirmed 100% that I can secure a car for early next year at a price which is actually under the quoted figure I got from “build your ford” on the ford website so I put down my deposit. He did mention though a contract cannot be done until the 17th as that is when it will be on the system. So let’s see if it all goes through as planned ?!?! I don’t take nothing as gospel until deal is complete and car in my garage. So is there anyone in the know who can shed light on the 1200 XR8 build, rumour or not? George |

Someone ran the maths on this, based on availability of autos and 335kw engine stockpile/build rates. They came up with ~46 per month, I believe, which is ~1100 for the two years it is likely to be on sale for.

The only person saying that there is plenty runs a certain FB group. Without citing sources, I tend to believe the masses on this one. My dealer had 3 cars across 5 sites in the first batch, and I've been told one is mine. Recent developments have put this in doubt, so who friggin knows? Hopefully by the end of the week, I'll know.
And if we don't find out everything until the 17th, that is right on the day of that XR8 event, so a lot of calls might be going through to messagebank...

Interesting all this early demand for the XR8, I think it's fantastic. Makes me wonder though if Ford had kept the XR8 drumming along, would there be such a demand for it now...or has this been a really good plan by Ford to hype up a limited model to get some last sales and clear some stock???
Personally I have gone off the FGX, but if I did get one, definitely G6E Turbo. I think the next Ford V8 for me is the Mustang, looking forward to the day I can drive one around Mt Panorama after a nice cruise from Sydney.

Ford dealers I've spoken to are saying autos are gonna be hard to get and confirmed that if wanting an XR8 in the next 6 months the time is now. Mackay has taken 3 orders and townsville only expects 2 from the first allocation. I will be securing an XR8 on Saturday :-)

The 1200 number has been thrown around alot. We got told directly there would be 1200 XR8 sedans available. Allocations are getting tight, we still have an auto available for December delivery.

This time the XR8 is the last Australian built Ford Falcon 4 door V8 sedan which in itself is significant..............also this time there is no FPV GT or quicker F6 to dilute potential sales like there has been in the past. Cheers Mick |

I think the selling point of the new XR8 is not the badge but that GT engine and RSpec bits for a bargain price.
The underlining message here is if you want one, then order it now.

Regardless, the last Ford AU built V8 will sell regardless of any said competition because its the last of the line. Many dealers have already got limited allocations, so this will make bargain hunting a chore, not to mention color and trans combination desirability issues. Interesting thing here would be how many will opt for the "newer" car over a second hand FG2 GT or GTP on the same dealer lot for a similar price ? Decisions decisions. |

I agree a quick acting paddle shifter would be great. I wasn't sure if change times, or time to react to change commands were being referred to, but in either case I thought that some forum members would be interested to see just how quickly the ZF boxes change. I guess it's no surprise that Autos are generally faster than manuals over the 1/4 mile because it would be hard to get a manual shift done in under say about a quarter of a second, and on the 1-2 change alone, most of that lost time will flow into the quarter mile result. I'm not knocking manuals though, a lot of people still prefer them. Last edited by 2242100; 08-10-2014 at 12:48 PM. |

After finally sitting in the FGX on saturday, and stewing over it...
I decided a GT was for me, just pulled the trigger on a super low Km, clean Campellfield FPV built GT. |
