There is a new younger generation that accepts it, and think that it is normal.

The Fiesta looks a smaller almost "Micro" car compared to the i30, I did not enquire about it, but I assume it has Idle Stop Start as well.

The Hyundai in both Elantra 1.6 turbo and i30 turbo are a better drive than I was expecting. The turbo gave me the impression that it is working "off idle".
It felt like I was driving a 2.5 or 3.0 litre N/A motor in a body weighing 1350 KG. It had the torque to "hang on " to lower gears.
You do know idle stop can be turned off right?

Pretty dumb way to right off a car just because it has a feature most cars are getting now, and it can be switched off anyway.

Just to "enlighten "you, you have to switch it off "EVERY" time you start the car !

I thought you would know that !

If the abomination could be switched of permanently, then yes, we all could live with that.

And it is a perfectly good reason not to buy a car that has the Idle Stop Start abomination, especially when there are other good cars available that do not have it.

Every new generation vehicle coming to the market has stop start.

Both my Mercedes had it. The only time I turned it off was on a really hot summers day as the aircon would lose its coldness without the compressor.

I don't know of too many good cars left without it...

Not true, the just recently release Hyundai i30 does NOT have it.
I do not think the recently released Corolla has it either.
That why they are top sellers.

It's not but it's a pain in the ***. I had a focus trend while my Ute was serviced, annoyed me to no end.

My Captiva has keyless start.. You turn the chrome knob where the key used to be. Different!! Same effect as push button start...

Fair comment.

I have recently seen a new model car where the idle Stop / Start button was right next to the motor start button.

You could ( maybe ) push both at once could have been the idea behind it.

I am not a fan of keyless entry / push button start either. Too much extra electronic complexity and modules that will fail eventually. But this technology is finding its way into even entry level cars.

Cynically, maybe keyless entry / push button start was thrust upon us to get us used to pushing buttons so that Idle Stop / Start will appear less offensive.

I would rather live with the Keyless entry arrangement any day than Idle Stop / Start.

I dont like manufacturers forcing stop start function onto their customers. Why not allow to switch stop start function off permanently .
Another way to make cars more disposable with technology that starts and stops the engine 50 times more than conventional cars.
Driving in peak traffic is not fun but if you do it most of the time i would go hybrid rather than stop start petrol/diesel car.

Develop the reputation for best built, best resale, harmless to own. Sounds simple but takes decades. The Powershift, and more seriously the legal action and reporting over it, have damaged the model names. I'd also say the styling hasn't been everyone's cup of tea over the last few years either, both inside and outside. While VW have also featured gearbox/engine woes in their elegant Golf, these still seem to sell solidly, albeit less than the Japanese/Koreans.

Ford's USP here is in the ST and RS models, very inspiring enthusiast cars, with German build quality, and reasonably priced. How many of these are sold compared to overall volume?

And Peter, very interesting comments on how quickly used, low km FGIIs are selling. I suspect its styling is the reason why. Young one wants an XR6; I wouldn't say no to the G6E Ecoboost.

My xf has keyless start and traffic light stop.

It's called the dipstick and stalling it respectively.
