Either your correct or they had no idea it went into limp home.

On XR5's the limp home figure is around the same power. I think it's 115-119kw. There's been quite a few caught out unsuspectingly by tuners.

In the XR5 you are correct, the ABS fuse needs to be removed to stop them going into limp mode - this is because the ESP cannot be completely switched off - despite the fact that the switch indicates otherwise.

The ST on the other hand has a fully off mode - and it actually does as it promises.

The ST which DJ and myself are referring to had nothing else done bar turning the ESP into full off mode. I'm not sure how or why Herrods vehicle went into limp mode, but I would be very surprised if it was ESP related unless they didn't even turn it off.

This may or may not be news to those who are patiently waiting for Mountune upgrades

http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...257BD600124EA7

Quote:
FORD Australia is set to offer a performance upgrade for its new Sport Technologies hot-hatch duo, the ST-branded Focus and Fiesta.

The company is currently negotiating pricing, warranty and fitment details with British-based specialist Mountune, which builds officially sanctioned performance and handling kits specifically for the Focus ST and its Fiesta counterpart overseas.

While Australian details, including timing, are still to be finalised, GoAuto understands that the Ford dealer-fitted accessories would add up to a 10 per cent premium over the standard cars.

That would put the just-released $25,990 Fiesta ST close to $30,000 and the $38,590 Focus ST beyond the $40,000 mark.

For the money, the mechanical upgrade will bring more power and quicker acceleration, with the recently released £1225 ($A2122) Focus ST package in the UK pushing maximum power and torque out to 202kW/400Nm and reducing the 0-100km/h acceleration time to 5.95 seconds.

That makes it more than half a second quicker to the national speed limit than the regular Focus ST, while in-gear acceleration also improves. For example, fourth gear acceleration from 50-100km/h drops by no less than eight-tenths, to 4.9s.

The latest Mountune pack for the British-market Fiesta ST, meanwhile, lowers the chassis further, increases power and torque to 158kW/320Nm and enables 0-100km/h acceleration in 6.7 seconds – two-tenths quicker than the factory model. The upgrade costs £599 ($1037) in the UK.

According to Ford Australia brand communications manager Neil McDonald, both Ford and Mountune have a strong interest in offering the upgrade packages here.

“It is certainly being looked at,” he told GoAuto at the Fiesta ST launch in Melbourne this week.

“There’s a great opportunity out there for our performance customers for both Focus and Fiesta to add a bit more personalisation to their vehicles. And we are investigating everything relating to the tuning process for the ST.

“But at this stage, while we are progressing well with the assessment for supporting Mountune in Australia, we haven’t yet made a decision if it is going to go ahead or not.”

Mr McDonald said the main concern is how the level of Mountune modification carried out on the Focus and Fiesta ST affects the Ford factory warranty.

“If we do end up providing the matching kits, how would they be warranted?” he said. “Do we look after that, or does Mountune?

“There’s a model for the US market now and there’s one for Europe, and we have to look further at what they do before we decide how or if we do it for Australia.

“But Mountune has gone through similar processes (overseas) and are now fully integrated with Ford’s systems.”

The UK Mountune packs for both Focus and Fiesta are fully compatible with Ford’ s factory warranty.

Taking around 90 minutes to fit at the dealership, the latest Focus ST upgrade includes a cast alloy inlet duct (silver or black powder coat finish), high-flow air filter element, larger alloy intercooler (silver or black powder coat finish) and unique calibration.

It takes around an hour to upgrade the Fiesta ST, which gets a remodelled air box base with secondary inlet duct, a high-flow filter element and unique calibration.

Along with its core motorsport involvement, Mountune has been improving the way the Fiesta and Focus drive since the previous-generation models of the mid-2000s, and has even provided upgrades for TDCi turbo-diesel versions in Europe.

Billed as “Ford of Europe’s official tuning and race-winning engine builder”, Mountune recently expanded into the North American market with a new centre in Southern California.
All I have to say is it better not be anywhere near 4 grand! Although it hardly sounds like its a definite..

Will this be an option for new vehicles only (eg. Pre customer delivery fitment) or will someone with a 2 year old car be able to go to a supported dealer and have the pack fitted?

Sounds like the usual package offered to us here, too late, too expensive, cant help thinking I have around 200kw at the flywheel with a Unleashed tune alone. Will accept the warranty argument blah blah blah, I will make my own way.

Yeah I've got a feeling there might be warranty/quality control issues for putting these on a "worn" engine. Might come under the category of "after-market" modification.

Kinda like a Rubicon pack on a Jeep Wrangler. Can come as a standard package with warranty, but not covered by warranty if you buy the parts and do it yourself.

ionno..

In the Uk the package can be added to a 'used' car and it doesn't void the remainder of the new car warranty. I would expect it to be no different here

If they are suitable for new does that mean if you have say 10K the modification isn't?

Also the package has to be installed by a Mountune certified workshop/dealer. So if you buy the parts and install yourself it voids the new car warranty.

Hence why I haven't bought directly from the UK already

Just had confirmation from Dave at MT if FoA support it it won't matter how much warranty is left on the car it will still be warranted.

A question for the blokes (and girls?) that have had their ST Focus for a good while now....

I'm just wondering if the seats have become softer or somewhat more forgiving over time?
How do they go, comfort-wise, for day to day driving or commuting?
How do they go, comfort-wise, for a long haul drive on a 500km road-trip run?

My issue to date in considering one of these cars is the comfort factor of the seats
as they felt 'very tight and firm' to me on first impressions when I checked one out at a car
yard. This is in comparison to my BA with full leather that I have had for the past 5
years. (I'm not an overly big bloke, but I'm not skinny either..... 83kg and 5'11").

Any comments would be appreciated.
Cheers.

I cannot fault the seats in any way, had the car since 12/2012. Even after 2 or 3 hours in them they still feel like you just got in. They do not appear to have changed or softened in any way but I realise slow changes are never noticed if they do occur. My first impression was firm, and still is, but that is what I loved about them. I am 5'9" 70 kg if that helps.

I cant fault mine, i have had a bad back for a while but i havnt had any issues and if i have its not from the car.
The telling thing for me will be when we head south (17hrs south) in it in a months times cause the XR5 seats really did hurt my back and these are much tighter.

But all in all i cant fault them.
Im 5 foot 10 and 70KG aswell.

I've sat in the Focus and given the Fiesta ST a test drive and didn't find any discomfort (coming from a leather FG daily driver).
Sure the seat felt snug at first but I didn't notice it once I was driving.

6'4" 90kg. There's the seat height adjustment which also adjusts the "lumbar" angle a tad.

I think we discussed the seats earlier, but as a 6' 100kg person, they are great. We do a sydney/Canberra run at least monthly.

The base hasn't softened at all, but I think the back has spread a tad but it was never too tight. If you have really broad shoulders or wide hips/thighs you may not like them though.

I'm 6'8" and heavier than everyone else that's posted up here so far, I did find the seats tight at first - but after 13000km they are really good. Equally as good as my XR5, not as soft as my FG but much more supportive.

I've done 8 hour stints behind the wheel, no back pain but I did find my right thigh got a bit tender after 4 hours solid driving. Admittedly after I stopped and walked around for a few minutes I was fine for the rest of the journey.

What's the latest with SYNC text messaging support for iPhones? Obviously it doesn't work with iPhones at the moment. Is this something Ford can get sorted in the near future?

i did a trip from adelaide to perth earler in the year, 1560kms the 1st day, then on to perth the second day, i'm a 6 ftr & weigh 110 wet. the 1st day was easy in the saddle,i did all the driving, the second day my right upper leg started to get a bit sore, all up we did about 7k kms in 18 days. I've now clocked up 18k kms in the st & have found them to be the most comfortable seats ive ever had in any car ive owned, the seats still feel firm, but have bedded in to me. Over time you will be more than happy with them

I'm fairly certain that's an Apple issue rather than purely a Ford problem.

I've had no issues with any of the multiple phones I've paired to mine, 3 different Nokia models as well as 3 different Android based devices, all running different OS versions. All functioned faultlessly.

Thanks everyone for the detailed comments on the seats. It would seem that some of
my concerns have been allayed.

Time for another look at the ST I think!

I'm pretty sure it's a Ford issue as I seen reports that iPhone supports MAP (Message Access Profile) since iPhone 4S. There has been cases where the iPhone text messsaging would work with other car bluetooth systems, so it doesn't sound like it's an Apple issue.
