Grand Ridge is a smaller brewery located in Mirboo North. Their beer does big, smelly poos all over Coopers.

There is also Little Creatures and Mildura Brewing Company.

I may be incorrect though.

Smaller breweries make far nicer beers as they have less selection and advertise less, meaning more money and time goes into what they do make, resulting in a far superior product.

Stella Artois, I don't know what is is about this beer but I think it is just magnificent. Those crazy Belgians have created what i like to refer to as "a liquid rainbow".

Also I'd like to name and shame one specific beer, Amsterdam. If I were go and chew on a peice of bark that a wild animal has just urinated on, I would imagine that it would taste remarkably similar to this beer.

Also like Pure Blonde, Stella Artois, and Corona. I will drink VB only if it is free and there is no other choice.

I used to drink Toohey's Extra Dry Platinum a fair bit, but those hangovers are like death.

MMM i love a lot of variety of brew but i haven't had this Clare valley stuff, Would be interested to know about this brew as it is a bit of family history that way.

Enjoyed a Schofferhofer tonight. Damn it went down nice.

Still have an Erdinger in the fridge....might have that one tomorrow night.

It's great knowing there's a great beer in your fridge just waiting to be consumed.

Schofferhofer and Erdinger are wheat beers. Schoffer was 3.70 last year, up to about 4.20/4.20 now. Erdinger remains at $5 for most varieties.
You can buy both with or without sediment. I personally demand sediment, as Kristal lacks flavour and body for mine, but each to their own.

If you want an easy to drink beer that is not too heavy but with a nice flavour, wheat beers are the go.
They are sometimes called "blonde", but as I have said, not that low-carb Bondi/Pure etc. crap. Those beers normally don't have an "e" on the end.

I have tried Gage Roads.
I think that's a brewery in WA. Was just fine.

Admittedly, I don't rave about Pale Ales, although they are generally ok.
Though Cooper's is probably the best known, it is probably among the worst in my opinion.
Smaller breweries make nicer stuff. Gage Roads is an example.

Tucked into my squire stash over the past two nights. Pilsener is a stand out, and I.P.A (India Pale Ale) is definately different but still a good drop. Amber and golden ale impress as always!

I think pilsener is a new favourite!

My favourite beers are actually Korean beers. The 3 most popular brands are 'Cass', 'OB' and 'Hite'.....

They are very sweet.......



Go to your local bar 'Hoff' and get a 500ml mug, 2 or 3L jug....and you can order a 5L KEG if you so desire... :

Pour your own :the_finge works out at under a dollar a glass..... even the biggest of nights never set us back more than $15....

What good is an Aussie beer thread with out an Aussie BBQ thrown in ? for the beer crown mostly but i hardly ever drink beer unless cooking a BBQ.

for the BBQ have a spot at the moment for full chickens butterflied ( like nando's ) they are easy to do just chop out the breast bone and squash them flat, marinate then throw the whole bird on the grill, some rough chopped onion and capsicum and some garlic bread and let it cook well.

all cooked chop of some chicken fresh from the grill, some sides, garlic bread and then the beer and it all comes together, beautiful.

Well James Squire has another limited release beer, 2nd for the year IIRC. The Pepperberry Winter Ale was done prior to winter and now they are releasing a Sundown Lager for the summer 08/09.

I have only come across 2 James Squire drops i did not enjoy as much as the others. The Oyster Stout & the Mad Brewers Rasberry Wheat Beer.

I guess I will be off to Dan's prior to xmas for buy a slab.

I Did some extensive testing on this subject in the '80s.

Rules were no more than 2 beers in a tasting (indulgence time comes after tasting)

I found that typically I found my favourites in these countries (in Order)

Belgium
Britain
Australia
New Zealand

West Malle - Dubbel is my favourite in the world if anyone finds some please PM me !
There is another Belgian 'Dubbel' that is a close second
Britain has Whitbread and Tennants - almost anything from these two is great.

Australia's "Matilda Bay Brewing Company" will reliably produce a nice drop

Almost any Stout (Tennants Milk Stout is one of the best)

NZ Monteith's Black
Tooheys Extra Dry
XXXX
Resch's Pilsener (Silver bullets)

If you are stuck in USA and cannot find any of the above (funny, but West Malle is there) go for Sam Adams if you cannot find it then avoid the other big names and go something local to the state you are in.

Westmalle is a trappist beer. I've had it, and found it alright, but it is quite pricey and not for an everyday drinker who is satisfied with Coronas or VBs.

The only place I know where to find Westmalle is a beer shop in Surrey Hills, Victoria. Purvis Cellars is the name.
I will be frank...in Victoria, you will NEVER find a larger range of beers. They have everything.
Rochefort 6, 8 and 10 are among the harder-to-find beers in Australia, and they have all three. They have Orval and Westmalle too, which are not the easiest to find.

My favourite beer is a Dubbel...La Trappe Dubbel. I have had trouble finding it though, only being able to find the Tripel, which is not as nice as the Dubbel.

Last night, had two Knappsteins, and a Leffe Radiuesse inbetween the two.

After those three, I had a Stella Artois, which as most of you would know, is advertised as a "premium quality import".

After have three true quality drinks, the Stella can be best described as a mere "import", without the "premium quality". When a person asked me how it was, I said, "compared to the other three, I'm licking the toilet bowl right now."

The Leffe...that is a quality import. Belgians know their beer.

I think with all this hot weather the past week or so its time to revive this thread!

Now earlier on i posted that im not much of a beer drinker but being so bloody hot i felt the need to be australian and have a beer.

At the moment im having a James Boags Premium Light. Not too bad easy to drink, very satisfying in this heat.... Had a couple of Heineken's last night which were also pretty damn good.

Umm, Resch's Pilsener (The orginal and best Silver bullets), but had a fond taste for the now defunt Toohey's Export Pilsener (Blue and Silver striped cans) Was ween'd on Tooheys Draught, the only real tasting beer is out of glass or from the tap, cans just don't have the same taste and they have to be icy cold (Brain Freeze Cold LoL) Not a big fan on imports seem to me to be a bit watery, Love making home brew's, some of the best beer's i have tasted have been home brew'd but i have also tasted some shockers like the batch my neighbour made using a brand new nylex hose, took one mouth full and spat it all over him, took me day's to get the taste of plastic out of my mouth
