Dumb question
But wouldn't this be a perfect example of what Ford Australia could make here and export around the world? Low Volume, High Margin. They could definitely make more than 250 a year.

Don't have the facilities and in the end the costs would outweigh any benefit.

Didn't Ford get somebody else to build the last GT?

No experience in carbon fibre production here. Multimatic, who will build the GT, have vast experience in it.

Lots of subcontractors. The recall over rear suspension bits was what got Steve Saleen fired from his own company.

In any business, recreating a favorite product is a fraught undertaking. Ask any Hollywood producer or software developer. Make the sequel too similar to the seminal version, and it will fall flat. Make it too different, and purists will scream bloody murder. Inside The 2015 New York International Auto Show In other words, Moray Callum had his work cut out for him when he picked up a pencil to redesign one the most coveted cars in history—the Ford GT40. The backstory is the stuff of legend. Ford, spurned in an attempt to buy Ferrari, made 107 of the racecars between 1964 and 1969. After trouncing the field in Europe’s famous races, Ford was satisfied with its grand tour and turned its attention from its light, agile track star to beefy, American muscle cars (and the Pinto). These days, the most prized of that first batch of Ford race cars fetch almost $8 million. And the company, cruising on resurgent demand for its pickups and SUVs, figured it was time for a victory lap of sorts. Callum, Ford’s vice president for design, got the call. The trick, he said, was balancing the weight of history and massive expectations while creating something contemporary, or even futuristic. “We agonized over everything to be honest,” Callum said. “We didn’t want to do a retro car. And what we came up with, you can recognize it as a Ford GT, but you can also tell it’s something from the 21st century, not the 20th.” |

Holy crap some more details. You wouldn't want a wayward mouse eating any wires
"There are over 50 different sensors in the Ford GT that gather information about the performance of the car, the driver’s inputs and the world around the car. These sensors feed information at a rate of 100 gigabytes per second to the over 25 computers that are processing all that data. Over 10 million lines of computer code are at work here, more than what you’d find in a 787 Dreamliner airplane." http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...content=title1 |

Ummm, not questioning your accuracy, but interested in the figures ... do you have any examples with more, which manufacturer, which model ? Ummm ... but a bigger Q is - what is a sensor I reckon I could get to 50 on the BFII (but I have not tried) |

yeah exactly there probably are 50 in a BF, a list I can think of generic sensors include engine coolant temp sensor knock sensor map sensor maf sensor oil level sensor oil pressure sensor coolant level sensor oxygen sensor (multiple in car) Wheel speed/ hall effect sensor (multiple in a car) Tire pressure sensor(multiple in car) Throttle position sensor Vehicle speed sensor radar sensor trans fluid temp sensor parking sensor(multiple in car) cam position sensor(multiple in car) crank position sensor low brake pad sensor(multiple in car) Engine rpm sensor Fuel pressure sensor Fuel level sensor Torque sensor automatic headlight sensor automatic rain sensor Air fuel mix sensor Exterior air temp sensor interior temp sensor Immobilizer engine lockout sensor blind spot sensor lane departure sensor roll over sensor And many crash detection sensors as well and that Is just what comes to mind I'm sure there are many more and on some cars probdbly an easy hundred sensors. Technically they have to do with performance of the car and its systems, as well as driver inputs.

I dont think its just the number of sensors but also the sheer amount of data they are capturing. 100GB/s is insane as far as sensor data goes.
Edit: to put it into perspective F1 ECU Quote:

Geez that side-on shot looks amazing.
I'm still in awe of this car really. For something this different, technologically advanced, and downright sexy to come from my preferred brand is just awesome. |

The auto is faster, simple. The car is all about performance.
All supercars have gone this route.

^^^^what he said, no manual super cars that I know of. Maybe R8?
I often wonder why bikes have not followed this trend...all full manual. |

I wonder if the Stig will get his hands on it? Would love to see it fly on the top gear test track, and compare it to the other supercars.

The last one wasn't a real successor to the GT40 IMO.
A very good retro version of it, but missing the essence of what the GT40 was really about. I have a feeling this one, may just be the real thing. Not limited by trying to replicate the past, only aiming to slaughter the competition. I think that's what excites me the most. |

^ I'll pay that. It sure looks ready to slap all the other supercars off the road.
