My local paper on Wednesdays has a motoring section where they pick a particular car each week for buying 2nd hand . They tell you about the different models and what to look out for and which year was better than another etc.
Anyway this week it was about Camrys and talked a bit about the TRD Aurion (which I had heard of but knew nothing about). Well for the uninformed, like me, apparently they are 6 speed auto supercharged 3.5 litre V6 241 Kw with 400 Nm where as the XR6T is a 4litre straight 6 240 kw and 450Nm. Not a real lot of difference. Now they did warn that that's a lot of torque steer through the front wheels, more fun I say. Anyway I was pretty impressed with the figures, so went onto Gumtree to check them out price wise, liked the look of this one, but hate the interior, what were they thinking. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/north...dan/1054170289

No way is the TRD Aurion comparable to either car.

I'm a FWD fanboy but its a crap car, chassis isn't set up for that kinda torque, even a factory Aurion is junk in that regard.

The only thing in that entire car that would compare is the seats. Impressive chairs for a toyota

Comparable to the 4speed auto turbos yep.. not the 6 speed autos. and hell no would I be seen in a tojo anyway :-)
From memor the turbo aurions were 14.2 seconds flat 1/4 .. which is probably 1/10 faster on average than 4sp, and half a second slower than the zf pre fg. I don't personally care about cornering and such.. once you get in front you are ok anyway. |

I instantly thought this was a Hulk thread when I saw the title. I'm a big FWD fan being a classic mini driver, but big sedans are a heap more fun and predictable when they're RWD in my opinion. XR6T every day of the week for me.

The quality of the Aurion is all over the XR6T.. Lexus like.
The speed of the XR6T is all over the Aurion. Its sort of like buying a cheap lexus or a fancy ford. stock for stock they would be pretty close performance wise, maybe a slight edge to XR6T but as soon as you touch the xr6t with a mod its a runnaway winner. quality/prestige the aurion has it in spades |

The first ones had dramas. So they dropped the RPM on the engines so they would survive.

The TRDs look pretty good I reckon, but yes, it's still just a big camry and will forever by the fridge of the motoring world. Maybe the ultimate sleeper?????

It sure would be good to take off all the sports add-ons and badges, and put a camry badge on it and make it granpa spec, then pull up the lights a get the commodore drivers by surprise

Also 2nd and 3rd gear roll on it was pretty potent aswell. My ST is similar but its much more linear in its power delivery being stock tune still.

I've got a fwd manual turbo and it is in every way possible (except smoking tyres) better than my xr6t but there is no way a trd aurion is comparable to the xr6t.

Whilst I would never buy one, for some reason I have a soft spot for the TRD Aurion and the Ralliart Magna too. They were both over powered and over styled and far far to expensive (they were priced in FPV/HSV territory), but I don't know, they were something a bit different to the usual go-faster Aussie sedan.
The Aurion was also a Prodrive engineering project, ya know, like FPV was....

Just saw one today hurtling down Tonkin Highway, pulled up at the Armadale Rd lights next to a fart bucket wrx with all the gear.
Gave it a good flog, at the next set of lights he was having a good old chuckle. Not gonna lie, I was quite impressed how quick that thing took off. |
