Default 2001 XR8 Ute Fuel Filler neck Modification

Hi Forum,
I am in a little spot of bother with my XR8 Ute rebuild
I have built a tray back for my Ute,which is also Tubbed and very low to the ground.
I have sat my tray back down as low as i could, which has sat it on the mounts where the old Tub was mounted
The problem i have is my existing filler neck on the AU 2001 Ute is elongated and is sitting way to high out of the tray to do anything good with it
I have gone down the road of external fuel cells(even bought a 57 litre RCI tank and talked myself out of it. Why ruin a good thing whilst its running right i say
I want to apply a Newton aero 300 filler cap to the top of my tray and some flexible fuel hose underneath back to tank.
I know their is an inner vent tube on the inside + Unleaded fuel flap
If i replace all of that as in Newton supplied cap and hose + clamps
Can i modify ( as in cutting 4 inches off the existing plastic tank ?

Any comments are regarded as help

i have the same problem but i cut a hole for it to poke through the wood floor for now. I wouldn't be cutting the tank. I looked at that myself but have settled on a fuel cell but thats also so i can run twin pipes out each side.

Thanks Blown,
Do you mean a hole in a wood tray floor
if so how far does the filler neck sit up or out and how does it look?
Is your tray tubbed
I have 40mm travel above my 19" wheels.
FPV 19" Federal Super Steel 19x40x245 all round
My eyebrow line is 335 front-340 back
I believe I am right on the border line for a defect
Just 100mm under front TS50 Fibre glass front end

It might be a fuel cell at the end of the day for me as well

Regards

Shaggz

i plan on doing the same to mine one day soon and was thinking of the fuel cell to fix that issue, make it easier for the dual pipes and put it right at the back for more weight as far back as possable. i used to have an alloy tray on mine and wow it was tail happy!!!!!

if the tank was towards the back of the car you could have run the filler near the number plate , probably pita though,
or ....... put a snazzy tool box on the back of the tray against the cabin and incorporate the fuel filler into the side of it? you could make it fancy in someway and still use your fancy cap and the tool box would hide the pipe???
