Only happens when turningthe wheels at nest to no speed, like when parking for example. Creaking and cracking sound. possible diagnosis?

Sounds like the rack retaining bolts/nuts have lost tension
|

This is reasonably common, you need to put some grease on the rack bolts.

remove the bolts and place in a 2/3 mm washer of harden steel in between the rack and body
That way the problem will not come

happened to my mate forte took it to ford they said it needed a new rack so l took it off the car and pulled it apart at work to find that the gears had worn enough to allow the teeth to skip over each other when under heavy loads eg turning when stationary, does it happen when you turn past the point where the front wheels are straight eg from lock to lock cos this may mean that the teeth in the rack that are engaged when the wheels are straight ahead position are worn
