Default WZ Fiesta light bar

G'day all,

Has anyone here put a light bar on a WZ Fiesta?
Specifically a WZ Fiesta Sport.

We're you able to fit it in behind the grill?

What light bar did you end up going with?

Hey Ben, you may not find exactly what you're after in here BUT I have a 2016 WZ Fiesta ST with a honeycomb grille.



In the crash bar behind the grille are two holes that will take M10 nutserts.



I would think your car would also have these.

These are equidistant from each end, so perfect for driving lights (or a bracket for a lightbar).

The only issue with nutserts is that you'll end up with a ridge:





In the case of M10 nutserts the ridge is 19mm wide and 2mm high.

In my case I used stainless nutserts and a couple of rectangular 3mm thick stainless plates the same size as the base of the RIGID LED Driving lights that I was using that had a 19mm hole in the middle (thanks to one of the guys on here that owned a machining shop).

I pulled the grille out and once the nutserts were in cleaned the bar using metho. Using 3m double-sided tape I stuck the plates over the tops of the holes and mounted the LED spotlights into these holes. Instead of plates you could probably get away with appropriately sized washers...

Anyway looks like this, pretty stealth:



I ran the cabling in split tubing through the back of the hollow crash bar to the far end light and through the sound symposer pipe into the cabin (there was no other way, the ST is chockers under the bonnet).

The small Hella switch for the driving lights is in the tray under the handbrake.

...make sure the nutserts you use have a crush range around the 1-3mm mark.

Where did you get them from?

Thinking I could even do this instead of a light bar.

Hi mate, no worries at all.

I bought mine from the States as they were cheaper at the time.

They're available in Australia from here:

...as you can see they are not cheap here at $550/pair, I found them much cheaper from a 4x4 place in the States so shop around.

Mine are not the 'Hyperspots', I ended up with 'Spots' as I don't need the long distance, I need moderate distance and the sides of the road for roos and wombats.

The high beams on the ST are actually pretty good, this fills them and spreads out to the sides quite well.

Don't buy the el-cheapo Chinese knock-offs from eBay, these are waterproof and built like little brick outhouses

I also bought a couple of clear covers as the lights would be quite fiddly to clean once they are full of bugs whereas the covers would be fine with a squirt of Windex...

I have a set of Hella Rallye 4000 Compacts in the shed from my old LV Focus, I am really sorry they didn't fit behind the grille

More notes as they come to mind...

The M10 nutserts (aka 'rivnuts') are available in aluminium, mild steel with a zinc coating and stainless.

I wanted stainless as they are going to get wet, really wet (I live in regional Victoria).

Stainless are difficult to install in the Fiesta because they are really hard compared to mild steel and especially aluminium, plus as I mentioned above you need come come in at a right angle.

I found it hard to justify buying a right-angle tool capable of setting M10 stainless nutserts for only two nutserts...so I researched on Youtube.

Have a look at this:

They are a complete and utter bastard to install like this and for this reason buy more than two as it's guaranteed you'll stuff up the first one.

...having said that it is definitely not impossible as that is how I installed mine (I used bigger spanners and swore a lot).

You can get a rivnut/nutsert tool from Total Tools - I have a Kincrome one.

There's a smaller right angle one that looks like a pop rivet gun that's cheaper and may be more appropriate for the space you have.

May be easier to use an alloy rivnut/nutsert to be able to crimp the bastard with your hands and the tool.

Not enough room inside the front of the Fiesta for that beast mate.

...although I reckon you would/could have done the front of my Focus with that one
