BF1 XR6 Ute - Speedo Accuracy

Hi Guys,

Newbie. Recently bought BF1 XR6 ute. Got a camera fine this week.

How accurate is the speedo? I think it might be very close to actual speed, rather than over reading.

What do you reckon?

Typically Falcons speedo shows approx 4km/h faster than the actual figure.

ie. If speedo shows 100km/h, actual speed is approx 96km/h.

Do you have std wheels and tyres on it? Don't forget that makes a difference......

The easiest way to tell what is accurate is to use a GPS that will show you what speed you are travelling. Whilst not absolutely guaranteed 100%, it's far closer than your speedo.

can get a dyno run
theyll print you out road speed vs speedo speed

only problem is
if the speedo over reads and you know the value it over reads by then you may find it hard to drive at 60ks when you know ur only doing say 55. the temptation is there to estimate speed which can get you into trouble. but its better then not knowing that the speedo is under reading your speed

If your in Melbourne I can check out if the speedo is out of wack in the cluster.

Thanks for your replies guys. What do you mean by the cluster? Are some out of wack?

I like the GPS idea too. I hear some warn of fixed speed and red light cameras. Any recommendations?

I have played with alot of BA/BF clusters and 99% of them read high. But I have seen one that was reading a fraction lower than the indicated speed up to about 70kmh.

I looked at your website. Sorry, didn't see the link earlier. Have standard XR6 17" rims & tyres. Run at 35 PSI all round (unloaded).

Will try GPS first, as suspect speedo under reading.

Yeah try a GPS. My speedo reads generally 3-4km/h faster then what i'm actually doing.

i have heard people using some kind of police digital speedo that is 100% accurate.
But not sure if was standard in FPVs only?

Any info on this anywhere?

The Police Mode can be activated on any BA/BF/Territory Cluster, which sets the right hand side lcd to display a digital speedo. It shows the speed that is passed to the cluster by the PCM. So as longs as everything else is correct, tyre/wheel size and diff ratio the speed will be accurate.

But the catch is that it can only be turned on and off via a scan tool.

Sounds easier and quicker than trying to estimate speed on the needle.
Really can't understand why Ford don't make it a accessible feature.

In the end, might still get a GPS anyway, that can also alert to approaching fixed speed cameras & red light cameras. :Up_to_som
