Default Securing an E-series Falcon

While reading Prappits thread about his unfortunate car theft, Someone said it was easy to secure your car so if couldn't be stolen.

This got me wondering on exactly how difficult it was to steal an E-series.

I drive an EF XR6 and as far as I know most falcons from EB2 to present are reasonably difficult to steal, Unless the thieves really want it.

What I wanted to know is how easy are the EA-BA falcons to steal??

No information on how to by-pass security measures, Just how easy it is on a certain car and preventive measures.

It has been suggested to me a few times to get a steering lock, not done yet, but how effective are these. Just a visual deterrent.

Thanks,
Sam

A kill switch and a steering lock are good...
You won't stop them getting in but if you immobolise the car it is a start
The steering wheel lock is only a visual deterrent but for $80 it can't hurt

yep, kill switch is deffinately a good option.
we recently purchased a wrecked EB II Ghia, and we couldn't start it..
didnt know how the engine was, so we pulled the dash apart to sell stuff and found a sus switch, alas it was a kill switch and we could then start the car.
hide i well and its a good step.

Has anyone here put an aftermarket alarm or immobilizer into their E-series? I get a little worried someone else might break into it and drive it like I do :P
Seriously though, what sort of measures have you taken to stop theft? Steering lock, or full-on motion sensing alarm with paging and electrified seats?

Smartlock only kills the injectors, and the starter (Via the starter relay)....
Obviously the starter can be turned simply by powering up the the starter line right at the starter motor....
So first thing to suggest is USE A KILL SWITCH TO KILL THE IGNITION LINE, not the starter line....

If you have LPG, then smartlock will do bugger all for you, and you can start an LPG falcon by powering the ignition and starter lines (Most LPG installs except the tickford ones will have the LPG locks running from the EFI relays, which means they will fire right up with an ignition signal)....

Your best defence is to stop ANYONE from accessing the cabin / engine bay in the first place.
That is fit an alarm, with triple immobilisation points, and connect those points to the following

Interior light fuse (Between the fuse, and the smartlock module)
Ingition Line
Starter Relay Line

Kill switches are groovy, specially really well-hidden ones. Either fuel or electrical cut-offs are your best option.

When I bought the EA it had a Yellow Light car alarm. I ended up disabling the bugger cos it kept going off after you pressed the remote button to activate it (weird) and sometimes the remote wouldn't work when you tried to get back into the car (I replaced batteries but it didn't help).

I just go for visual stuff such as a club lock, and kill switches. If they really want the car they're gonna get it no matter what. Thankfully my car is not steal-worthy (if they did they'd be : ).

The other option to XCH45R is to install LPG - ya can't get through the back seat mwahahahaha

Hi, all. I'm new to this board (from South Africa). Actually stumbled upon you searching for info on Smartlock. I've got a 1996 EF Fairmont (a truly sexy beast) but the dealer only had one remote. I can't seem to get anyone (even my local Ford dealer) to make me a duplicate. They can sell me a spare, but can't code it! Any help out there? Is it worth the hassle, or should I just rip out the Smartlock and install a new system (as suggested by a local car security company...obviously).

Smartlock keypads are easy to code, the instructions should be in your owner's manual. Failing which, someone will know the deal for coding EF pads.
