A focus is a focus is a focus is a.....

Anyway, Zetecs are overrated IMHO. : If you want a nice example of a CL, have a look at Timmeh's.

Don't start flaming me, I'm surrounded by two Foci on a full time basis and if that's not the plague I don't know what is (hrrrmmm maybe trading the XR in on an ST170 maybe?)

Blasphemy!!!!

Anyway, congratulations on your purchase B2F. I'll have to report you now for having missing badges. :evil3:

What colour and what the hell is a safety pack.

I got a October 04 Focus SR with Tow Bar (mind you, the 1.8 doesn't like the trailer very much : ) on road for $20,650. I thought it was a pretty good price. They they also chucked in mats :

The car pulls the trailer ok, but struggles on hills. But what can I say, its not built for towing.

Ink Blue (Dark Blue), and the safety pack means it has disc brakes all around (as opposed to rear drums), ABS and Driver + Passenger Airbags. Quite a nice little feature to have IMHO.

Got it for a bit over $18k.

Thats a pretty good brand new price B2TF specially considering it has the Safety pack!

well i pity you mate.. after my first ride in a brand new SR Focus today, you have got to be kidding me the car is on par to my oldies 15 year old Excel... Ford badge or not it was a real disappointment...

so small, so cheap and tasteless inside, no wonder they depriciate so much. They are really throw away cars imho...
If the Fiesta is smaller I can only imagine

These are just my impressions of a car that I thought would deliver something to the small to mid sized market but I haven't laughed so hard for ages.

Well then you are really missing out on a lot

The SR is a CL with a few updated parts, check out a Zetec or even an ST170 next time and you will be hugely surprised.

I haven't heard a bad thing about my ST, including Holden drivers who tell me how much they like it and would happily swap their cars for one

faaaaark you must be incredibly hard to please. 4 million people can't be wrong. It's hardly a throw away car. A mate of mine with an identical 3 door silver Zetec locked his keys in his boot the other day. RACV guy turned up, got out, looked at the car and told us we were dreaming. the ONLY way in is to smash the window he said, tried to open the door with his little bag etc for a while, but it was deadlocked insde, so couldn't even open it from inside.

He said Astras are one of the most common cars for call outs, breakdown all the time. Said they don't see many Focus AT ALL and that the only other car that gives them so little trouble and is such a bugger to get into is the Golf. Not a bad wrap I'll admit. They are rock solid little buggers, handle the pants of 90% of cars on the road, ride beautifully and are ergonomical and spacious.

If you haven't been for a ride in an ST170, you simply don't have the authority to say you've been in a sporty car with sports suspension and dampers that rides so amazingly and incredibly preciseley and comfortably even over a B or C road.

As for throw away, then if you're happy to throw away a Focus, what model of Mercededs are you currently driving? And are you taking it in for the recall that just got pulled on 1.3 million worldwide models? Rock solid and still goin strong the mighty Focus.

It's clear that anyone who compares a 15 year old Excel to a Focus of any model, let alone a Corolla, Astra or even a Pulsar has rocks in their head and is simply making sensationalist statements in a lame attempt to sound authoritative and cool. Excels are a plain and utter piece of rubbish and don't even deserve to be compared to an Echo.

The Fiesta has delivered class leading handling, safety, power, size, looks, build, quality and features to the light car class, has the awards to prove it and will gladly take on anything and win to prove that.

The Focus is a very fine car that has won many worldwide awards and even though it's now 7 years old, can still hold it's head high. It set new benchmarks for ride and handling in the class that the Mazda 3 is now compared to and still is up there with the best. Considering more Focus were sold between 1998 and today than Corolla, then whilst our beloved "Australia's most loved small car" holds leadership here, the rest of the world are a lot more sensible about their vehicle choice. Then again, we are a country that gave Hyundai a reason to make money. To think they charged $13k driveaway for those things and still made profit.... crikey moses. We're just a country full of tight arsed muppets who'll only buy a boring cheap crapbox because we're too afraid to buy a car that might drive well, make driving fun, or SHOCK HORROR actually be one that the rest of the world likes. But not that Europeans would know anything about building cars, they're just a bunch of latte sipping foreign language speaking well dressed nancies who have nothing better to do than kiss each other and make SBS porn movies.

.... Thinking a Getz is better then a Fiesta... no worries mate, you go drive a Hyandai Excel, and we will continue with our Fords... see which lasts the longest without faults... Not to mention the fact that a excel is NOT quick at all... and Midsized car from Hyundai? i dont think the Elantra would beat a Focus for safety, reliability and all other categories...

Racecraft i'll keep this short, as im not really qualified to speak on the pros and cons of Foci just yet. I had a list of criteria that i wanted my next car to fulfill, and out of numerous cars of its size, the Focus beat them all in my opinion. Still not quite perfect, but close enough for what i was willing to pay and what i wanted in a car.

Yes and pay Falcon prices to get one lol! Please :

I have to agree, the Focus really doesn't do it for me, its an OK drive but I couldn't live with the styling or pay that much for a car which is under equiped and underpowered (until the next one ofcourse).

By the time you get a brand new one on the road with some options you can go to the Auctions and buy a BA Futura with less then 10,000 kms for the same price ($22,000). I know alot of people say they are cheaper to run etc which is fair enough, but they hardly compare with the likes of the Mazda 3 or the new Astra.

Thats just my personal opinion, which is pretty meaningless but I have to say the sales are a good reflection on how good it actually is, regardless of the awards and shit its won overseas, its really never been sucessful here.

No car I have driven in other than other European imports, and some high quality Japenese imports like the Hondas, have the build or ride quality of the Focus. We owned a BA XR6 and of the four months before we sold it, it spent 3 1/2 months at Ford getting fixed. My Focus I have owned for 2 years and it has spent 3 days at Ford, one for each of its three servicings.

The BA XR also felt sloppy on the road compared to the Focus, and it was the best Falcon I have ever driven or owned.

Noone can tell me the Focus is a low quality product - unlike the Falcon we owned. As for devaluation of the vehicles, I regularly see second hand low km vehicles go for within 5 grand of new prices - as ShockWaveXR6na states in his reply, no BA holds that much resale. Our BA with 7 grand on the clock sold for ten grand less than what we paid, and we only had it for a couple weeks.

We weren't the only one with problems, I remember the picture of a silver BA going around a while back...

You're comparing prices of a second hand Falcon to a new Focus... of course they will cross over at some point. The fact you can get a BA Fairmont with less than 10 thousand kms says alot more about Falcons depreciation than the Focus pricing! :togo:

Fair comment, I agree. It's not on Australian sales that the Focus is the best selling car in the world at the moment.

None of these comments are written to create arguments, I am just having a right of reply with my opinion on the issue. I am not expecting both of you to like the car, but the opinions are subjective and are not fact covering a whole car model.

I agree with a reply that Tim had once on the same thing i said.... you are comparing old with new. Wait till the new Focus comes out, then compare it to the Mazda3. If you want the compare the current focus to a mazda, check out the 323! Im sure a CL or LX is better to drive then the Mazda 323... note: Drive, might not be quicker

And that is where you are quite wrong, just because the paper shows it lacks a bit of power does not make it so, have a real drive of an ST and you will see they are quite capable of easily holding their own against most cars.

Then you will understand the mentality behind them rather then just saying they are underpowered.

Ask some of the people around here and you will see they are quite quick, especially against NA BA Xr6's

Rarely an XR6 testdriver would drive one and buy it because they were quite simply shocked at how good it is... unlike the ST170
