Great to see, but no surprise though. It'll be interesting to see if the Golf GTI can hold onto it's "best sports car under $57000" crown next year when the XR5 enters the fray.

HAHHAHAHHAHAH, i just realised. How biased is that! Focus CL vs Mazda3 Maxx Sport. If anything it should have been an LX.... or even a Zetec.... Strange how they use the cheapest Corolla, Focus, Astra... and put it up against a Mazda3 Maxx Sport...... strange indeed

These awards are the biggest crock of and contradict most of the results you read in Wheels and Motor. I mean, a Getz as a category winner........what a complete joke!

Yea.... go look at the Fiesta score in 2004 and now in 2005.... its marked down/up on certain things, however.... its the SAME CAR. Oh well, it lost by 0.03

Depreciation up to 5 instead of 4 in 2004.... WOOOOOOOOO
Running costs also changed to 5 instead of 4 in 2004.
Space went from 3 to 4.... yet its the same car, right?
Build and Finish quality... 4 down to 3 in 2005. How does that make sense? They have all been built with the same quality....
Smoothness and Quietness from 3 to 2 in 2005.... from what i know its still the same engine and sound deadening?

Overall, the Fiesta moved from 3.68 to 3.75... just for being the same car!

Maybe the competition have improved over that time, while as u say ford have rehashed the same materials for a few years, so simply by comparision they have gone down? i dunno..

I think if you grab a copy of the criteria used you would find that they measure each car to the other to get the ratings, not against a standard, therefore ratings could move each year by comparison with other models out there.

Oh okkkkk.... i thought they could do that, but i didnt really read into detail. Just noticed a few things changing.....

Im not sure if thats the best method... comparing cars for the rating, only to compare the final score. Maybe each car should be INDIVIDUALLY marked based on criteria, and then the final scores compared?

I suppose its a bit like uni exams, your final mark is marked to a bell curve of all students results, so potentially you could get 80/100 but still fail if 95% of the class scored 90/100 or above.

So as you are marked against the quality of the others, the cars are marked against the other cars in the same way. Even if a standard was used your assessment of the standard would be swayed by the impressions you get from the other cars anyway.
