Be sure to call Dan Murphy's tomorrow and confirm your order, DM's oversold on their 200 bottle allocation and accepted 700 orders. Quite a few people have been receiving calls saying they aren't getting a bottle.

I'm on this tonight -

WORD OF WARNING: Don't drink it like your standard spirit, I tried a nip straight as I usually do with a first timer and it is intense. I'm pretty sure if you choose to shot this you are going to lose your esophagus.

Hey guys, just after a bit of advice. I don't drink any alcohol so don't know much about it, but wanted to get a friend who loves rum a bottle of something nice for Christmas.

It'll be to drink, not collect.

I've been told Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 is good, as well as Appleton Estate V/X (something like that?) and Matusalem. Any advice on which way to go, or other recommendations would be helpful.

I always thought Bacardi 8yo was the best bang for your buck rum you could get.

But if you're looking to go upmarket Ron Zacapa whether it's XO or 23 is awesome.

Drained a bottle of Ron Zacapa Centenario XO Rum last night.

Woke up as if I hadn't drunk anything at all, the beauty of high quality alcohol.

No hang over!

Am I the only one who was extremely disappointed with the BDC guided tour and subsequent tastings?

Started 15 minutes late, only went to 4 spots in the factory which were cordoned off and then had to fight to get the tastings cause they overbooked the tours.

I tried the Double Barrel (thought it tasted just like Red), Bundy Red (only rum that doesn't give me heart burn) and one of their premixes w/ passionfruit (tasted nice to start with until about 5 seconds later it was like I ate a packet of yeast)

I've never been. I had planned to take a road trip one day to Bundy and then home again. 3k round trip, so feedback like this is always good to hear. Might have to spend a few days on the coast to break it up.

Time to start the catalogue with what I have. But as most of mine with the exception of a few are all drinkers, it will only depress me when the collection starts to diminish.

I blame TV. I watched Mega Factories on the Distillery and learnt quite a bit. So I decided it was time to complete my MDC collection and then found a few bargain buys, so I couldn't resist as well.

I picked up some plinths for MDC and a couple of other souvenirs.

Whatever you do, don't get rid of that 125th bottle. You'd get a good bit of coin for it, but no amount of money will be better than that masterpiece.

Don't worry. It's a keeper and will never be sold, or drunk. It's far to important to me to ever go anyway. To me it is the pinnacle of any collection. It's my holy grail.

I'm still chasing the 125ml. I'm gonna need to see what people are willing to trade for one of their spares.

Does anyone do anything with their empties. I quite like the MDC bottles, so I've filled the 2 empties I have with water and tried to match the color of the contents to the label. Just thought they would make a great thing to display on top of my small wooden cabinet.

Will fill some more when I empty the drinkers. Made a lamp out of one of my empty Reserve Bottles.

Here's the lamp. Practice one, a few details to workout, but going to try a 1ltr bottle with coloured lights next.

I've seen picture of that framed 125th poster before, I know I have! I could only get my mitts on the one, but that was good enough for me.

As for what people do with their empty MDC bottles, I'll send you a few pictures if I can find them.

If RZ XO isn't the most beautiful rum available today, I don't know what is?

I've only had the one bottle and I chose to share it was a couple good mates. Just enjoy it straight, adding anything to it is ill-advised.

I had a 2nd go at the lamp. This time I went for colored LED's and used 40 instead of 20. I frosted the glass bottle and added a rubber grommet to the back to cover the hole. I used an empty Founding Fathers Bottle

Don't know if I'll make any more, but was thinking of doing one from an MDC bottle.

Frosted looks heaps better, I might have a crack at one of them. What did you use to drill through the glass?

On second thought I might try one of those big crystal skull vodka bottles.

To drill the hole, I used my ozito hand held drill. Same as a dremmel. There are a couple of glass cutting bits include in the kit.

First thing I did was to put some plastic over the labels to protect them. Taped it up. Fill the sink with water and submerge the bottle. The bottle needs to fill with water as well. The water just needs to cover the bottle. As your drilling in water with an electrical device, it's not the smart way to do it, so exercise caution.

With the small bit, with the dremmel on the lowest speed. Find your spot towards the bottom. Once your through, get the bigger bit and start working the hole so it enlarges. It needs to big enough to feed the lights through. The 2nd bit has a come shaped head, and find it the best for enlarging the hole.

To frost the glass, I bought a pressure pack. "Rust-oleum specialty frosted glass". I bought it from a paint store. This was a taubmans stockist. Spray a couple of coats to the outside. Don't worry about the label. It doesn't seem to affect the labels and I think it gives a protective coat to the label.

I tried to frost the inside, but it ended in runs. Outside works just fine and I think it's better this way.

Always drill the hole before you frost, otherwise the water affects the finish.

That's pretty much all I did. The led's I grabbed off eBay, and super-cheap had the grommets.

Get in quick, Winehaven in Sydney have 9 Silvers and 19 blacks. Unlike the 125th, the stock seems pretty steady. I don't know how much in demand this will be, but being their very first release, the silver should be a real collectible. If Waterview become big and successful, you would have to think their first release will attract big money.

I'd like a silver, but I don't think I'll bother. I am waiting until they start selling standard bottles, then I'll try a rum and a vodka. (Not in the same Glass)

You'll probably get yours finished before I do lol.

"Adding to their trouble was Sam Johnstone. Sam Johnstone owned the Waterview mill, located on the opposite side of the river. In 1892 he opened his own distillery, adding to already stiff competition in the market. This was not the only issue for the young (Bundaberg) distillery. Massive floods went through the region in 1890 and again in 1893."

Are they related?

The rum used for Waterview was purchase from a Western Australia distillery. The couple hundred bottles they have released is all the rum they have, and they don't have any sort of distribution chains.

Thanks for that info Sm1dy.

Over on one of the bundy fb pages, one bloke posted this

"At least it a local product. Not foreign owned using Belgium sugar. Except the Tshirts everything was local Bunderberg or Australian made. Well done Waterview"

I agree, they are trying to cash in on Bundys success. I did want to try some, but I think I'd sooner give Beenleigh a go first.

The whole unearthed thing, I'm not sure if it's just their marketing ploy, but to burry a couple of barrels in the back yard and say they were lost from the floods is a little "3 ring circus" for me. Maybe we should get a photoshop expert to photoshop waterviews logo on to a picture of a circus tent.

Here my latest purchase.

I was looking for some steins and wanted something different. Through a Facebook page "Down The Hatch" I found just what I wanted. So I ordered 2.

He had a good collection to choose from and not just the Bundy ones. He does all sorts as well as some themed stuff. A great guy to deal with. Very pleased with my purchase.

I think he will take a little to get use too, but I thought they would make a great display peice when I'm not drinking from them. The D3 I think would make a great stein for iced coffee's
