Default 'Darth Vader' EL GT???

Quote:
Ford racing star John Bowe joined TVE as a consultant in 1996. His considerable input was realised in the 1997 release of the famous 'Darth Vader' EL GT, with its in-your-face styling and superb handling and performance from a Tickford-tweaked V8 producing 200 kW.
found this on the site www.fastlane.com.au in the ford history section.. anyone got a pic or any info on this model? it would be interesting

edit - link to ford history section (hard to navigate) http://www.fastlane.com.au/frFordfeatures.htm

Yeah the EL GT was the darth vader Falcon. Cause it looked mean with the vented grille, like Vader's mask plus it came out around when Starwars Special Edition Trilogy was in the series.

I still think the EL GT was one of the most beautiful Falcons ever made, even if many disagree with me.

I've loved them since the day they were released, so people didn't like the grille but I thought it looked good. I still have a picture on my wall of Steve Parks concept drawing of it.

Me as well. I personally think the EL GT is one Horny looking beast. Much better looking than the GTS-R of the time.

I am a Ford man through and through, however I have to disagree with all those who say they would have one....

Having to look at the grille everyday would may me want to sell it. When they came out the guy up the street had one and he replaced the grille with a 'mont one... much better. Its 'look at me ugly' for the sake of it.

The overall package was 'ok' - for its time it was great for a ford though - considering its best offer was 185kw. Compared to these days however it would have trouble keeping its own with a BF Futura....

Personally I love that grille. The EL GT looks tough, and I've liked it ever since they first came out.

EL GT is by far my favorite modern Ford, Id have one over a BF GT.

Only thing I would do would be whack a blower on it.

Its weird. kinda love/hate the Europeans did that aero bulky plastic kit thing first I see on Mercs and BMWs so I guess it was a styling 'era' type thing. .. yes somehow that makes me feel better about it. lol. If I had one id just want to make a real race car out of it starting with the fake woodgrain and moving on to the lack of tyre burning performance.

they are ok though, id swap for one.

i have owned el and ba and would never take and el gt over a bf gt .looks style and performance of the el do not come close to a match for bf.the only thing i did sort of like more was the interior of the ef/el ghia.the interior on this car was very classy and stylish back then and now.while the ba looks more modern inside,it just does not seem as stylish or complete as the el interior was.i must also say that i would have an el over an au.the au is the only ford model that i have never owned and will never own .i have had models before and after but never the au.not a bad car to drive but i could never get a hold on the styling.

Considering Drive have managed 14.593 @ 154.2km/h from a stock BFII XT sedan, I don't like the EL's changes against a 190kW BF Six.

I had a EL GT 5 manual (no 123) and i loved it. I have had a T3 and now have a BAGT and it handled better than the two of them. The inside is just class. For there time 200kws was plenty i ran a high 14 in mine. They are VERY nice to drive to.
