Our fuel economy is up to S@#%
445km 445.8 on a full tank of fuel 12.34L/100km
I had the fuel light on for 30 minutes on the gateway today...lol
For months now we have only been getting 360 on a tank of fuel, it's slowly getting better.
New oil filter and oil done last weekend
Buying some new Spark Plug on Friday, I think thats half the problem.
Clean the air intake system.
Got a new fuel filter, just need someone to put it on for me. thanks to Ford for putting clips the wrong way around.

483km and 482.7 on a tank of fuel = 11.38L/100km.
38km more then last week.
Thats the best it's ever done, city and highway driving and that isn't flogging it either. Just normal driving.
Theres a big difference between auto and manual.
On a long drive 3.5 hours on the highway, we have goten 520
The auto in the Zetec model isn't that good.

Just curious, do you remember what the reading was when you picked up your car? I could be wrong, but since its an average, if it was thrashed by the dealer or the delivery guys before you got it then its going to take some time before it settles into a more accurate figure? I heard that the guys who load these cars onto the boat drive along the pier like it was an F1 track.

I've heared the same thing, heaps of cars getting written off. Getting the A$$ end out driving through the gate and around corners...LOL
It was less then 100km.
when we 1st got it, it was averaging 450 on a full tank of fuel.
The auto seems to be great for 6 months then it goes down hill for awhile and then it'll start to get better.
I would be interested to see what other Zetec auto are getting.

Yes on the hwy you should be able to get around 800klm to a 55 litre tank if driven smoothly, I average 6.1 litres per 100 in my 1.8 laser which has a 55 litre tank, and it's fantastic economy.

Yep..I was amazed! Got to remember tho', a lot of the journey was sat at 100kms/hr!

This means that my next trip to Bris, I'll only need 2 fill ups en-route if I start with a full tank!

fantastic stuff! my local dealer wont allow test drives anymore that are longer than 15mins...they want to preserve the current stock they have in hopes to sell em at a higher price than a normal demo.

you should put up some photos!

haven't had the car for long (only 220kms on it at the moment..) so the engine is still very tight, but dad n i have managed to get it down to 8.4L/100km, and thats in near constant stop-start traffic and short hops where it doesn't fully warm up

not bad i reckon... out of interest, what RPM do u manual guys shift at to get the best economy? i've found anything under about 2700 is pretty good, but im wary of labouring the engine when its still so new. being gentle is the key.. oh and turn off the aircon in winter :

Wow, that IS good! Our sedan's done over 1800ks and its just now ticked down to 9.9/100, and that's driving it downtown, freeway, 'burbs, etc. I don't hoon around and I take it easy on acceleration/braking...

So far over 5000Km in the Focus, 20,000 Km in the Scenic and 100,000 Km in the AU have been without any bad effects using E10.

Only thing I notice is the cars run better and I pay 4c / l less....

Average speed of aroind 38km/h from memory.

Tips...

*Haven't gone past 4500rpm yet

*When in bumper to bumper traffic I leave a reasonable buffer between me and the car in front so I'm not clutching/accelerating/braking all the time (ie. don't sit up people's bums in traffic, try to keep the momentum going).

*Have used air con about twice

*Let it warm up a little in before I drive (but not much though, have heard the you shouldn't let it warm up too much whilst stationery as the motor will warm up quicker than the trans, etc).

Thats pretty sweet. Mine's been returning 9.7-10L/100km consistently. Mainly cause I drive in the city with an average speed of 20-23km/h.

Just on this topic, I've run 3 tanks of Optimax Extreme. not only does it knock my economy down to about .5 of a litre/100ks city/freeway combined, but the engine runs really smooth at idle and revs silkly all the way to the redline very easily now.

By the way I get about a 0.2-3l/100km gain if I take out my sub box and amp ;)

Is that the one with 5% ethanol? I thought our Duratecs weren't able to run on any ethanol blends?

Duratecs can run ethanol blends of 5% its the fuels with more than this that you shouldnt put in the car. That S&*^ you get from those el-cheapo fuel stations with 10% or more ethanol in it you definatly shouldnt run.

Hi
I got my 2004 model 1.8 cl manual in june 2005 and in the first few months it was difficult to get below 7.8. I did a trip from Brisbane to sydney and with fairly careful driving I only got 7.4. However the car was only a few months old with less than 5000kms. Now 1 year later I can get 6.8 with out trying too hard. A few kms on the clock seem to have both worked wonders for both performance and fuel comsumption!

I have a 2006 LS Manual and i have done 2000k's so far. I mainly do suburban driving, and I seem to always average out at about 8.5. (i reset at every refill)

If i am just driving straight down the highway on 110kmh it will sit on 6.0 - might get under that just if not too many hills.

I am using E10 95 Ron fuel

I get 7.6 city driving. I think you guys are talking about newer focus. I have an 04, 1.8, SR model, 5 spd manual and I usually fill it around 630 k's. It's takes about 48 litres of fuel. Running regular unleaded and now I have premium in it, to give that ago to see if economy improves any

Go to Mobil fuel dude and try 6000 premium.
I'm trying 8000 premium this week for the 1st time, Mobil has a $2 off if you spend over $50 on 8000.
Put it this way to everyone in this Focus Forum, I've been using all different types of unleaded and premium for just about 3 years from BP, Caltex shell, etc and all are ****house, I've been using Mobil for 1.5 months now and I will never go back as we're getting over an extra 100km.

I might try that. An extra 100k's would be excellent already on a very economical car. I just put Vortex in. Reason why is that the regular ran out, so they put vortex on at regular prices. So i thought I'd try. But If i'm going get an improvement in economy, I will try it for my next fill over at mobil.

I might even try being a little less on the heavy foot side as well, to see how much that helps.

Thanks for the info

I've seen a big jump in economy for a 2.0L auto.
My 2003 CL doesn't need any extra power, but our 2005 CL has been running like crap for 6 months, so I said stuff it and last Friday afternoon I filled up with premium 8000 and its been running like a champion, its now on 1/2 tank(280) in the 2.0L auto normally on 1/2 you would get around 220-240km, full tank on my 2003 is around 550km but normally i get around 420 to 450km
So imagine what you would get in a manual dude.

It has nothing to do with a heavy foot dude.
Its the Zetec engine man, it goes through stages where you get good economy for ages and ages then you'll get not so good.
I own 2 Zetecs and both have done the same thing. This is the best km we've seen in a long time in 3 year and I am not bull****ting any 1 on here.
