I'm in the same boat mate (studying engineering). Would be nice cause it all adds up this goingto uni. Also the amount of time you spend which you could be working instead making money.

I don't get it.

I Spend 30hr+ weeks at tafe/uni studying engineering, 15hrs a week at work, driving, mostly washing dishes and mopping floors, claim all my tax back on my car to pay for all the costs related to work (it's not even enough).

But someone who works 30-40hrs a week doing an apprenticeship 2 yrs younger than me with more money than me gets it. I love capitalism. And the unfair favouritism towards trades as they evolve into independent businesses giving the government yet more income.

Not to mention at the end of my education I'll have to pay back 40k in education fees.

Your tax bonus payment will be:

* $900 if your taxable income is up to and including $80,000
* $600 if your taxable income is between $80,001 and $90,000, and
* $250 if your taxable income is between $90,001 and $100,000.

Your payment will not be used to offset any of your other tax debts.

The later you lodge your 2007-08 tax return, the longer it will take for you to get your payment. E-tax is available to lodge your return online.

yes but dont forget that at the end of it all, you will be able to earn more than the other person (depending on exactly what they did) and in the end have more job security and freedom.

and before you ask, yes i was a uni student, finished engineering at JCU at the end of last year. I paid my own way for a while, but then became eligible for youth allowance. (and i also laugh when apprentices whinge about their wages... )

Stimulus Info...

This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:

Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the Australian economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at Target, all the money will go to China .
If you spend it on Petrol it will go to the Arabs.
If you purchase a computer it will go to India ..
If you buy a car it will go to Japan .
If you purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan ..

And none of it will help the Australian economy.

We need to keep that money here in Australia . You can keep the money here by spending it at swap meets, going to a footy game, or spend it on prostitutes, beer and wine (domestic ONLY), or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in this country.

WHOA WHOA WHOA. WAIT. I AM ELIGIBLE(!?) even though I am ineligible for every other little bit of government assistance (which is a joke, as I work 2 jobs around being full time at 'college' to just to get by while I know people who make over a grand a week thanks to full government assistance garnishing their under-the-table employment)!?!?

Wow, please tell me I am. I will actually have something to be thankful for from Centrelink. $900 would go a long way!

I didn't work in the 07-08 period (well, I did, but only for four days, after those tightwads fired me for wanting somebody more experienced to run their business...at 14 bucks an hour!), but I have shares, so I will get my credits...goodie.

yep your right there! its not fair :( it wont be in the court till the end of the month. I wanted to buy leather damn it.... I reckon alot of people wont be very happy with this at all.

In short, "THE Federal Government's $900 bonus to 8.7 million taxpayers could be in jeopardy after the High Court agreed to hear a challenge to the legality of the pay-out."

we'll me never having been given a cent off any govt in the form of cash . ever ever . and i'm so called to rich . was never expecting anything , because i have always missed out , as i've always worked overtime .
so i guess it was good for me to never expect it . i've constantly seen many many many people better off financially than me getting handouts, that i have been dirty everytime i've missed it . in this instance i decided not to expect it . looks like i was right.
