Default A New addition to the Velvet Family

Fresh from the good people at Maton Australia comes the third in a series of custom built Blood Orange axes - an Electric 6 sibling for the earlier Acoustic 6 & 12.

A welcome arrival.

Well, seeing as we're showing off guitars........

This is mine, and this is one of the best shots of the finish on it. Quilted maple with blueberry stain, absolutely beautiful:

Very nice addition to the Velvet family Russ. I want one with about 7 more strings than on the blue one.

Any new addition would have to be a good one! My Maton acoustic has been very faithful and great sounding, even with me playing!

Well, you're almost right - one more string would be nice. I would love a 6 string version of my BTB.

As for 7........ : the neck is big enough as it is!

Very nice Russ...

I'll have to take some pics of my axes also now that we have this thread.

My guitars are as follows...

Started on a $200 Daeon Performer (think that's the spelling) (gone)

then went to a Kramer (gone)

Now have 6 string Ibanez Jem Series BSB (burnt stained blue) (Steve Vai model)

Ibanez 7 String Universe (Vai model also)

A Paul Reed Smith

and a Maton Accoustic Electric ECW80C.

Nice Russ, Maton make really top notch guitars, I especially like their acoustics. A lot of acts swear by them...the factory in Bayswater is worth visiting too!

I have a 1975 Fender Stratocaster
Jackson Dinky electric
Takamine Electro acoustic
Yamaha 12 string acoustic
Martin classical acoustic
yamaha Bass (4 string)

And run it through either a 50w JCM900 Marshall Valve combo
Or do the acoustic gigs/vocals through a 100w Carlsbro acoustic/vocal amp

Absolutely awesome. I have only ever played a JEM once and it was a fantastic guitar.

Im just looking at the Australis Price Listings and thinking you're either a very dedicated or a very rich (or both) man! Money well spent though.

What year model is the JEM? Ive never seen that colour before.

PRS isnt bad either, I like the McCarty models the best though.

The JEM is one of many Steve Vai models. They are only ever made in limited numbers so it's definitely be one to hold onto, not that i would sell any of these ones.

The top of the line PRS guitars are great also, but the one i've got is a budget type model.. only cost 1,500 i think. Reason i got that was for the solid mahogony single piece body and floating bridge setup.

Unfortunately i'm not as dedicated as i should be... living in our apartment here makes it hard to crank up my amp and married life at the moment is getting in the way... will have to sort that out ;)

Nice guitars there JEM...i played a 7-string Steve Vai model ages ago and they are very nice. Same with the PRS, i have a mate who got one custom made in the US (similar to Santana'a) and it's probably the nicest sounding guitar i've ever played...

I started playing guityar when i was about 7 or 8, lessons at primary school then into high school, and gradually got to a better full-time teacher who's played just about everywhere in Melbourne. He influenced me quite a lot, I started off playing Zeppelin, Sabbath, Clapton, Pink Floyd, then graduated to the solo's in Metallica, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Healey, Satriani, some Vai stuff (extremely HARD!) and basically bits and pieces of everything.

Played a few gigs when I was a teenager but fizzled out as it was too hard that none of us had licenses. Done a couple of albums since then, 1 was covers and the other was originals in the blues/rock style with vocals, and i did the drums and bass on the songs too. Havent played much in the last few years...got my own house now and the room for it but just havent got the chance!

Some nice axes there - the Jem is very nice.

A couple more from my collection:

The 6 and 12 Acoustic cousins to the Mastersound:

Some Vintage Ibanez Acoustics:

A twin neck Ibanez SG Clone:

.. and it's 6 string brother:

A couple of Ibanez Les Paul clones:

A very nice semi hollow:

.. and a solid bodied 12:

There's a couple of others but I need to take new pics of them.

Cheers
Russ

Rus

You have an outstanding collection there. I love the 12 string Maton.

What with the Fender amps? One seems to have it's price tag on it still? Do own a music store or something?

Some nice stuff there, the Lawsuit Ibanez models would be worth a pretty penny.

Looks like 2x Fender Princetons and a Stage amp?
