FG XR6 vs Ducati

On the way home from work this arvo a guy on a ducati tried a u-turn in front of me from the left lane (I was in the right lane) with no warning whatsoever. I barely had time to jump on the brakes.

I've owned the ute for 2 months and while I'm obviously glad the guy's ok (he was wearing all the right gear), I'm p!ssed!!

And car drivers cop grief for not looking out for bikes!!

I always thought ducati's sounded really nice, but you know what, all motorbikes sound the same when they're sliding down the road on their side.

Here's the result from my perspective, good thing for all concerned I didn't have a lot of speed onboard. The 2 & 1/2 week old bike is a little worse for wear.

Not good mate! Glad to hear everyone involved was okay. Clearly it was the bikers fault from your description, but he wouldn't have deserved the fate which most bikers get in a situation where they are knocked off their bikes. Will his insurance pay for your car to get fixed?

damn glad to hear both of you are ok, looks like a nice bit of damage done too. hopefully the the insurance claim goes though nice a quickly

Yeah his insurance will cover it. I'm trying to feel sorry for the guy but it's hard, very hard.

I guess you don't have to feel too sorry for the guy because now you have been inconvenienced by this incident but at least everyone got out of it with only damage to the vehicles. I have seen the end result of a car doing a similar u-turn in front of a motorcycle which resulted in serious injury to the rider. Unfortunately humans will always make mistakes caused by poor judgement. Hope your Ford gets fixed ASAP.

New headlight too - lets hope there's nothing bent under there. Good to hear it wasn't as serious as it could have been, could have been a terrible accident

Ducati's still sound nice though :P

How stuffed was the ducati??

Looks like a bit of damage on the rim.... might be a perfect time to upsize them. I can do some running around for you next week on my RDO's and "sort out some wheels" if ya want.

A bit of bad luck there but I'm glad all the human components are OK. Think yourself lucky he is one of the few bike owners who have insurance.

glad everyone is ok, nothing that a new headlight and bog wont fix. lets hope no one gets in my way i don't have insurance.

im glad he wasnt hurt, but i wouldnt even attempt to feel sorry for him, that kind of stupid riding is all too common out on our roads

It didn't look too bad but he was muttering write-off as soon as he got his head back on. There was a lot of what looked like oil on the road under the bike but it turned out to be brake fluid from the mushed reservoir, the motor looked to be in one piece.

LOL yeah, especially with the lights on feature blazing away.

Calmed down now, everyone's ok that's the main thing. I called the guy this morning and apart from being stiff and sore (and no doubt a bit of bruising on his ego), all's well.

I checked earlier, but nothing has been said. It's a small forum with a regular bunch of about 30 riders. It's a good forum.

Bugger eh, from experience I know you will need to have the whole side of the car resprayed to ensure a good colour match. Its lucky he's insured.

Seriously, the whole side of the car? I don't understand how hard it could be to match a factory colour that's only had 2 months in the weather. Is that because the application methods are so different between the factory and a panel shop?

paint isnt exact and after having a few panels resprayed at various panel shops, id almost demand they at least blend the the front quarter through the front door. painting just the one panel will stand out like my dog pre-operation

Not good. Main thing is noone got hurt badly.
If the fairing on the Duke was damaged it may well be a write off.
Doesnt take much to financially write off a bike once the plastics get trashed.

I think that's correct.
I recently had some panel work done on my XR6 after I took the wrong angle going into my garage, decided to put some nice scratches down the doors and from the looks of things they have sprayed alot more of the car then I thought they would've.

Which is a good thing ofcourse, can't complain.

It did't have any fairings, I think the initial impact was on the stator(sp?). Would that be on the riders rhs?

Cheers BOS, Guess I'll see how it comes back, guaranteed for life repairs apparently. I'm not usually one to make a fuss but I'll certainly make an exception in this case!

That would be a Ducati Monster then (or a Hypermotard) and that's the clutch on the RHS.

I'm still trying to work out why someone would want to try a U turn from the left lane on a dual carriageway...next to another vehicle...
