Here's one of its interesting features...
Quote:
One more interesting feature that will be available on the next-gen Focus is Dynamic Cornering Control. While torque vectoring has been increasingly used in high performance all-wheel-drive systems from Acura, BMW and Audi, Ford is applying the concept to the front-wheel-drive Focus. If it delivers, this should help provide even better handling balance with less understeer in the new compact.

As with many cars. It will probably look much better in the flesh.

I'm just wondering what 2012 means? Does that mean it will be released in 2012 or will it's first full year be in 2012?

Just noticed one prob - the steering wheel is on the wrong side... :P
Looking at it again, I dont hate it as much as I did at first, but still not a massive fan.
A car with curves is great, but not that many! Especially when the **** end of the hatch reminds of the Renault Megane....

2012 model year.
The 2012 Focus will hit the showrooms in 2011 starting with Europe and North America (early 2011), individual global market launches will follow after that (perhaps throughout 2011).

The designers have grabbed a bunch of ideas from every other car maker by the looks. That crease running through the door handles doesn't flow through the rest of the car. It looks totally superfluous and an add on thats supposed to make it look funky. Overall, the car reminds me of a sporty SUV and apart from the front, its not a good look.

Yikes. Not a fan.

Couldn't help but notice in the quote from the autoblog article that they refer to it as a "compact"
I could be wrong, but aren't the Americans the only mob who use that term for their small cars? If so, that could be the US model which, based on thier current and past foci, will share very little (cosmetically at least) with the euro car.

Theres a shipload of Taurus in that design.

I was hoping that (like the Fiesta) the Focus would be Euro all the way, and the yanks would add a different front bumper (maybe it be the other way around this time and Europe will get a different front bar?)

Not a big fan of the front bumper or the superfluous 'handle to handle' crease. However promo pics have a habit of making the cars look very average. I need to see some dodgy quality joe average pics before I start getting excited/more disappointed. The final (and most important) test is seeing it in the flesh.

Nah its global. At best the Euro/rest of the world Focus will get a different front bar.

Any clues as to when it'll arrive in Australia?? I'd heard a while ago that we'd be getting a new model in 2010, but that looks very unlikely based on what i'm reading about this one. Or are we getting an small update to the current shape this year??

Some design guy is getting paid big $$ to put the aircon vents verticle instead of horizontal? Wow what a great idea!! *sarcasm alert* Interior would look ok if they fix the vents and the centre console. Its a bit mish-mash.

To quote from a Cnet article
http://www.cnet.com.au/ford-focus-fo...-339300371.htm

"According to the initial plans, the next-gen Focus was scheduled to be produced in Ford's Australian plant in Broadmeadows, Victoria. However, due to a number factors, these plans were skittled in favour of a turbocharged four-cylinder Falcon. So, instead, the Focus will most likely be imported from
Ford's plant in Thailand."

Regarding the MyFord Touch system
"Given the fact that Ford's much lauded Sync system, which allows for voice control of connected mobile phones and entertainment devices, has yet to make it out of North America, we're not entirely certain that MyFord Touch will make it to us down under."

Engines
"A number of engines will be slotted into the new Focus. In Australia we're most likely to see a small four-cylinder turbo-diesel and turbocharged engine — dubbed EcoBoost — that's tuned for economy not power and a 2.0-litre direct-injection engine."

Not sure I like the tail lights

I'll keep my opinons to myself until I see it is the flesh. So long as this new handling featrue works and has more torque/power, i'll be happy.

What I did notice was the similarity of the "2012" Focus Sedan to that of the current Mondeo..... anyone else notice that as well.

Is there a "real" pic of the XR5 around? Keen to see how mad they go with it.

Is it true that they are dropping the 5 cyl' Volvo motor? Be a shame.

Not that keen on the interior. Very Mazda to me, and I think will date quickly.
Seems to be a lot of plasticky looking plastic. Will look sh*te when covered in dust
and finger prints. Just my 2c.
