Hey i got my apollo filter from an ebay seller in america. Came to around 150AUD shipped. Had to also buy 12mm silicone hosing and a 70mm (90 degree bend) silicone pipe. Bought some hose clamps from bunnings also.

Taking the lower airbox off was a bit of a pain and you will need a trolley jack and a stand. Those can be had from repco/supercheap auto for around half price when they're on special, so keep an eye out for those in the catalogues.

Well boys it's in! My mate did most of the hard work, I was the supervisor

Good things:
- Good value for money (comes with silicone hoses and brackets)
- Looks good
- Significant performance boost
- Sounds throaty

Not so good things:
- Challenging installation (some differences to European engine, instructions came in German only!!)
- Might be a bit too loud (not sure yet)

Phone camera pic:

Does having the air intake in the engine bay like it is, reduce performance as against a cold air intake from outside the engine bay?

How hard was installation?

Did you have to change the intake pipe all the way to the turbo?

Also how is the feel of the pants increase in power/torque?

No I left the stock pipe as it contains the air flow sensor, don't want to tamper with that. We just had to unclamp it and turn it so it faced down as well as zip tying a few other bits and pieces here and there. Overall it wasn't too difficult, just took a bit of time.

Coming from the open pod filter I can notice the difference, mainly in throttle response. It picks up much quicker than before where there was always a bit of a delay. Compared to the stock airbox you'd definitely feel it.

It does make a bit of noise around 2000RPM though, might have to do something about that.

Not at all, it should be exactly what is on the website.

186.90 EUR = 248.469 AUD

Hmm, might have something to do with me having my account set to show prices in AUD. Maybe their exchange rates aren't right.

Also, which shiping did you go with? DHL or the other option?

Thakns much for the help

I was going to do the alloy airbox on Friday week with some mates, but the improvements on this seem too good to go around and make up our own for probably less benefit.

Thanks DZ, it was your thread that made me go for it so I appreciate your efforts.

I went with DHL, took around 3 weeks to arrive but they have full tracking. Even better is that AusPost takes over delivery in Australia so you can collect it from the post office if you're not home, I hate rescheduling couriers.

You should buy a few things as shipping is not cheap, the alloy gear knob is so much better than the stock potato-sized one.

It's good to have another enthusiastic TDCi modder around Damo

Fairly expensive shipping compared to getting stuff from the USA, I'm interested in the rubber floor mats and the rubber boot liner.

DZ do you have the tube that sucks airr to the filter attached with anything? A mate and I are trying to work out where we would put it and how to secure it.

At the top, it is connected to the Apollo with some spare hose clamps.

Below, it runs down towards the front bumper, but it is not attached with anything down there. I have just trimmed it to size so that it does not rub or vibrate on anything.

Does it just sit behind the bumper? As in nothing blocking air feed to the pipe?
Wondering how many bugs etc it would suck in..

The pipe is fairly long, you can manoeuvre it to wherever you like and then trim it down to size. You can put mesh over the end of the pipe if you are worried

I've got mine in the passenger side wheel arch wedged between the gearbox and the engine cover. It did suck up a bit of water when it stuck out too far so I just recessed it a bit.

After the first clean, surprisingsly it didn't suck up and leaves or small dogs.

OK, boys. The Apollo is in, connected to the stock throttle body hose. A couple of questions.

1. Did anyone attach it to anything? It just hangs off the hose?

2. The original breather line is thinner than the replacement. I tossed the connector at the Apollo end. At the other end, I cut the stock hose about an inch from the stock connector, and simply shoved the stock hose with stock connector still attached end into the new fatter hose, before clamping it all up and reconnecting to the motor. Is this the right way to go about it?

i'm just afraid of the whole thing falling off at a 100kph...

1. Yep, it's a lightweight unit so it can just hang off the hose, no problems there. Just make sure your hose clamps are done up tight.
2. Sounds good since it is all clamped up. Shouldn't have any problems there either.
3. Now hit the road and enjoy!
