Default Tool for removing the sump plug on my Mondeo 2010 MB TDCi?

Hi All,

I have a Ford Mondeo 2010 MB TDCi 2.0 Litre.

I'm now trying to change the oil. However it is proving difficult to find the correct tool to remove the sump plug.

I tried a T50 (hex) tool, but that stripped the plug slightly (as shown below).

Can anyone please tell what tool I need to remove this plug?

Also does anyone know what thread size the sump plug is?

I ideally want to replace the one that I currently have with a standard bolt.

Any help will be really appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

The sump plug is an M14x1.25 and I believe the fitting is actually an H8 size (8mm hex key).

Yes, definitely hex and not Torx. I would suggest a hex socket to remove it, not a L shaped key.

I'm not sure a normal bolt will work as the drain hole is slightly recessed.

Good luck.

cold chisel is what I used on mine from the damage Darra Ford did to the poor vehicle over the years (amongst other lazy sh*t they did). Couple of taps around the edge saw it start to move and come free. I replaced it with a different plug and thought about a smart-0-seal plug but couldn't be bothered in the end.

It's been crossed threaded (see what I'm saying Darra Ford) and is still hanging in there cause it's only a plug and doesn't need a breaker bar to be 'done up'. /end rant

keen to learn how you did this, I'm in the same boat, trying to do my first service on a 2010 focus and the hex fitting is rounded (i think they done the bugger up with a rattle gun last service). when you say a few taps around the edge, what exactly did you do?

thanks
