Default German engineered XR5.

Ford is not giving credit where its due yet again.

Its blowing the German trumpet for XR5 but it's actually Team RS based in Essex in the UK thats responsible for the ST which is the XR5 here. And the T5 engine is from a Volvo.

Would love to know what input the Germans had in the ST/XR5 to warrant the entire credit for its engineering.

It's a marketing slogan, and to most German Engineered probably sounds better than Essex Engineered.

But technically you are right.

Also there's seems to be no mention of the German engineering on the UK ST site.

Its just marketing, partially correct.

Its just a car, marketing departments dont know much about them, they just sell them.
(that wasn't a serious comment)

didn't the germans design the body and the engine? uk throws the ideas together and south africa throws the pieces together, as for marketing, that doesn't sound as good

It's not a major concern really is it so long as the XR5T is a sexy beast?

That said, there really isn't a great deal of difference where the car is designed, produced or sold these days... I mean doesn't some (or all) of the BMWs for the AU market come from South Africa?

If the product is good, let them make nice and entertaining ads to bring the masses in, what do i care!

PS - Loving the Heinz squeeeeezy sauces ad ;)

The 2.0 engine is a Mazda MZR unit. Same as Mazda3/MX5. XR5 is a Volvo engine.

I'm not anti-german or anything just wondering why Ford Aus wants to heap all the credit on them. Arhg hell, at the end of the day we're all driving Yank cars.

Who cares where it is engineered and where this comes from and that comes from. Enjoy the car and be happy with it

Actually, Sales departments sell.
Marketing departments find out what makes the customer tick, what are the important message or messages the customer will respond too, and how to get the product noticed and uppermost in their minds. Like little hooks such as "German Engineered" which triggers a whole range of impressions about the car in two words

when driving the XR5 there was a difference in the feel of the car to the regular Sth Af built models, mostly in the interior, the was a good feel of quality. I dont really care where they make or engineer it, its a awsome car.
