Hey again. Got another question i've been thinking about. Whats more cost effective long term, efi or carby? I know efi will usually use less fuel and have greater performance but if things go wrong isn't it more complex and expensive? My old EF Falcon had the computer die and it cost over 500 for a replacement. Do efi cars often have problems? Thanks again...

EFI will usualy have cheaper running and repair costs, as the parts tend to last as long, if not longer than carburettor componants. Initial cost of EFI is defintaly much greater than Carburettor.

DEpends on what car you intend to put it on.. IIRC you cannot remove an EFI set-up and replace it with carby as it will no longer meet emissions...
Think of it like this, EFI sprays a mist of fuel as the engine requires it, carbies dump in a bucket of fuel weather you need it or not. But I love the simplisity of a carby, a couple of jets and check the float level and away you go..hehe

lol @ 1250 dominator on 253. Ive heard storys of 2x650vac2nd Holleys on a tunnel ramed 253. Joke. A 500 square bore is plenty for a warm/hot 253. 1250dominator is big block, or INSANE N/A or blown small block terriroty.

Ford Econovan and Econovan Maxi came with carb 4cyl engines until 2003. In 2004 they received EFI versions of the same engines. Nothing else I know of comes carb now.

The newest car I ever owned has been 10 yrs old so i'm looking more at older cars anyway. I'm poverty stricken at the moment...

I know of an EFI cleveland same spec as my old setup that actually did 10rwkw less than me. The main difference was due to the way the fuel was metered it had a broader torque curve and idled nicer. Thats the only difference. Couldn't compare fuel econ as he had a 5 speed manual. Mine being 3 spd auto.
Main reason I'd never select EFI is I change stuff too much. EFI costs to much to change parameters, injectors, pumps etc. That same EFI clevo has more cam (hyd roller cam) than me now with the 185cc version of my heads. Last I head he was still 29rwkw down on me yet I still run the same camshaft. Brenden

Carb was fun in the days of nothing else, - but like all things today - time to move on and play with other areas instead
